Looks like with all our guys on covid list we don’t have cap space for perunovich. Rosen makes same as Joshua so he was a fit.

I hope the Blues are going to make a roster change in the short term, for example: waiving Clifford and replacing him with a guy who makes league minimum as that saves 250.000 AAV allowing us to freaking call up our best player in the AHL who actually deserves to be in the NHL at the moment. Not being able to call up Perunovich is unacceptable IMO as we know we're probably going to have guys on and off the Covid-list throughout the entire season.

EDIT: didn't realize we're not getting any caprelief when putting players on Covid protocol.

The NHL needs to fix this. Cap space should open up when players are on Covid list. Penalizing teams that spent money to put the best team on the ice.

Yeah, while all players are vaccinated, covid sgill seems to spread and if a team suddenly has an outbreak of 6+ players, bthat just decimates them if they were on higher end od cap.

what are the Blues waiting for exactly having guys like Bortuzzo, Walman, and Scandella at D?
He can’t be called up, as doing so would take them over the cap; they want to, but league won’t allow it even though multiple players are on the COVID list (those players still count against the cap).

No help in sight

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told the Post-Dispatch on Saturday that none was forthcoming. “There is not currently an intention to provide cap relief for Covid-related reasons,” Daly said via e-mail. “No different than having to deal with multiple short-term injuries. St. Louis is not at all unique in having to navigate these waters.”

Let Perunovich stay in the AHL this year. Needs the experience and build up his endurance for a long NHL season. No rush.
usually Id agree but hes 23 and leading the AHL in points. I think hes ready.

Plus the Blues have 2 or 3 fringe NHLers ont heir blueline right now.

On Cap friendly it shows Perunovich AAV at over 2M (due to incentives I've heard). But it also shows the cap hit at 925K.
OK, so that is a bit confusing. But, also, how is SP going to reach incentives if the blues are having trouble calling him up due to his incentives? Doesn't matter, I know.
One last thing though ... how about SP's situation. The Blues want to bring him up but can't which means he keeps making 70K for his minor league contract instead of at least 832K (his base nhl salary) .... ouch!!!
It's just really messed up.

He'll get a call up this year, I'm certain. But it will be when someone with a regular NHL salary is on LTIR. The Covid absences are just a weird situation. Several teams have had to deal with this. See the recent San Jose game as an example.

Half of their staff.

A bit different IMHO.

Any news yet on Schenn's injury yet? If he's going LTIR that would create enough capspace to activate Sundqvist and call up Perunovich.

When is he getting called up? Top pairing and the Norris has his name on it.
Top pairing to me says you’re comfortable having him out there late with a one goal lead and we do not have those facts yet in evidence. We have a lot of evidence that he does the same things very well that Krug does very well. As others have said he won’t be called up until there’s cap room for his bonuses.

Playing a full year in the AHL might be the best thing for him. Just seems like a logjam with Krug and Faulk though from the outside looking in. Saw him play a lot at UMD and he’s very fun to watch—rooting for him.

He is good insurance for the Blues in case Krug or Faulk get an injury that causes them to miss a lot of game. I wish he could have come up and played during Krug's stay on the COVID list.

Top pairing? I don't know if he's ready for that kind of ice time, but he's plenty good enough to be on the 2nd or 3rd pairing. He does similar things to Krug, sure, but just based on his production so far, he is WAY better at creating offense. It could be how the game is now played, the team makeup, age difference, but there's no denying the numbers. In Krug's first year in Providence, he scored 45 points in 63 games. Things COULD change, but currently Perunovich has 18 points in 11 games (a pace of 103 points in 63 games) and he's leading the league in scoring. I wouldn't be against him sitting for like a month longer, but he absolutely should be coming up after Christmas.

Slow down. Krug was 21 when he was in A. Perunovich is 23. He MAY be better at creating offense, but let’s see how he does in the show. He will be here soon, I expect.
