I would love to add Laughton for the 3rd line. Unfortunately I wouldn't expect him to be available. I also don't think I would trade what Flyers fans would want, but that's likely not important as I can't see him being available.

Solid player on a very good contract.

Can’t control whether Philly engages or not, but this would be a target if I was GM of the Leafs.

Can't see him getting moved.

Great Glue guy... reasonable contract. You're not going to retain on him because he has 3 full years left at $3m.

He's in a market where Bo Horvat can likely be acquired at $2.75m, and Ryan O'Reilly at $3.25m; both who would play similar / larger roles that Laughton would be acquired to.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there's a long list of teams that would like to add him, but none motivated enough to part with top assets, and if not getting top assets, why move him?

Yeah. This is definitely a factor. There's also guys like Toews and Monahan out there, who will cost more on the cap (even at full retention), but likely undercut the market on acquisition cost. There are options out there for teams looking for a guy in that role.

The appeal with Laughton that would have to factor into any deal, is that he isn't just a rental. He'd be an investment in this season, but also an investment in a good player on a good contract for a few runs, not just one kick at the can. If Laughton gets moved, the price will be higher because of that...so it'd come down to a particular Team/GM being keen to spend a bit more in assets, to get a longer-lasting piece for their team. Not implausible, but it may be a tough sell optically...paying "more" for a lesser player like Laughton. Cost certainty is not always easy to convey to fans as "value", especially more casual ones.

If a team is in all in mode and picks RoR as an example I totally get it.
If a team is looking long term and has made a big jump and wants to stay up short and long term (say seattle njd) then Laughton is the fit.

Even Seattle or New Jersey, would be better off to swing for a guy like Bo Horvat with the hopes of resigning him.
