Nadeau and Musty and Cowan will all be in the NHL by 2025 or 2026. That’s my basis of comparison. And the Flyers pick won’t convey until 2027. It’s not like the value isn’t okay on paper. But the constant pushing back of years like time isn’t finite drives me nuts. This isn’t an indefinite rebuild. They publicly say the next 18 months are the end of the rebuild and they will start buying, while epically chunking the picks they make and kicking the can with the ones they’ve yet to make. It is a theme.
This.

There is literally no logic or consistency to what they're doing.

If you look at their roster decisions like extending Tippett, TK, and Seeler, you'd think they are trying to compete next year.

If you look at how they are managing the cap, you'd think they are trying to compete in 2027 or 2028.

If you look at what they are doing with draft picks, you'd think they are trying to compete in 2032.

Just hope they dont rush Grebenkin to NHL...

he has more upside than just a bottom sixer if things go perfectly as he showed in KHL, and for Marlies was only playing 15 mins a night and PP2 (4/21 points only on PP)...

Think ideally he needs more time to learn how to use skillset on smaller ice with less space.

Then maybe, just maybe you can squeeze a 50 point playmaking winger out of him...

I would genuinely say right now he is alongside Barkey in that 5-6 prospect group for Flyers. One of the few fwds in org who might have top six upside.

Most likely ofc just ends up a bottom six winger... but yeh, in a vacuum a prospect of his level alone is probably worth a 2nd round pick.

Laughton getting a 1st (even if in 2027) and a legit prospect... I would have taken it and ran a week ago. But yeh, prices have been crazy.

I hope they will try him with Michkov immediately. Grebenkin has good IQ and can score. Yeah, he didn't look great for Toronto, but who did? The list of players who didn't look great in Toronto and became good players elsewhere is pretty long.

They aren’t going to use these picks.

I hope anyway. A ton of late extra first rounders won’t do a lot, but I fully expect offer sheets or trades in the next 2 years.

They’ve alluded to the same, and they telegraph pretty clearly.

Questions of pro scouting acumen would arise, and we know my faith in that department - but yeah, you may as well try to trade for higher end talent - because you sure as shit aren’t drafting it with this approach.

Offer sheets only use your own 1st, not ones you own

“This trade is as tough as they come personally and professionally.”

-Coward GM
I mean, he has an honorary degree through Comcast. You have to respect his view of the profession.

It does have me wondering...when was the last time a GM traded his former teammate? All jokes and well-earned criticism aside.

This organization isn’t going to turn things around until they turn things around. Keeping Dino’s around such as Torts only perpetuates the philosophy and play of a decade of losing. Only the Flyers would keep around a coach and staff that has played below.500 hockey over virtually three seasons. Led by a coach who is the most detested one in the game. How is that going to be enticing to players on other teams? A true turn around for the club will only begin when Torts & Co. are shown the door.

I couldn’t hate Scott Laughton. It’s not his fault the Flyers put him on such a high pedestal

Had the best looking wife on the team.

I appreciate this post. He pissed me off bc of how they marketed him - but he does seem like a good dude. Good for him, hope he gets a few big goals this playoff.

Maybe they won't notice until they don't have enough actual humans to suit up, and they accidentally tank.
