Good for Hartnell, I find this really surprising since he's still relatively young. Speaks to his durability considering he plays a bit of a rough and tumble game.

More tumble than rough too haha

Nice of Jarret Stoll to give this to Hartnell.

He willl receive the Silver Stick when Columbus hosts the Flyers.

That is really cool! And an appropriate game to get the stick too. Congrats to him!

I hate this guy when we play against him, but he is one of the funniest and most genuine off ice personalities and it makes it really hard to hate him and his sometimes very annoying tactics during games.

Can we pleeease trade for Hartnell so we can have a troll line?

Hartnell - Kesler - Perry

Just to annoy the daylights out of the opposition. I'd even split Perry up from Getzy just to watch other teams rip their hair out.

Kimmo Timmonen also showed up and surprised Hartnell for his 1000th game. Id share a link but I'm on my phone. Hartnell said they are "best buds", 2 classy guys who are hard hard not to like

http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/sports/flyers/Flyers-Timonen-surprises-ex-teammate-Hartnell.html

When Columbus' Scott Hartnell played in his 1,000th career game in a 4-3 loss to visiting Los Angeles on Monday, there was a surprise guest in attendance: Kimmo Timonen, his former teammate with Nashville and the Flyers.

As Hartnell walked into the rink in the morning, he spotted Timonen.

"I was like, ‘What are you doing here, buddy? You’re supposed to be skating now.’ It was pretty cool that he surprised me," Hartnell told the Columbis Dispatch after scoring a goal in the Blue Jackets' loss. "That’s why he’s my best bud.â€

decent player, but always takes stupid and ill-timed penalties, is a horrendous skater who seemingly never worked to improve on that, scored a whopping 4 goals in his last 29 playoff games with the Flyers (playing for a large majority of those games with choice talent like Giroux and Jagr) and is widely forgiven cause he's a kooky character...was a great trade away even though it was a bad trade

Wow, that is so cool. Hope Timonen is able to make his comeback succesfully.

And now I'm sad that Hartnell was traded from the Flyers, because I never realised that this is the first season in Hartnell's career that he is playing on a team without Kimmo Timonen. Can you believe it, out of Hartsy's 1000 regular season games 953 have been on the same team with Kimmo. That is 13 seasons all in all. I had no idea they both left Nashville to Philly at the same time.

Does anyone have any idea on what the NHL record of games/seasons is for two players playing on the same team (on two or more different teams)? The most astonishing thing to me is that Hartsy and Kimmo played together on the same team quite equally since they had 6 seasons together in NSH and 7 seasons together in Philly.

Anyway, sorry, I got carried away.

Congrats Scott, you da man!

Yup. And they co-own a team in the Finnish elite league I believe.

Hartnell and Kimmo is the best bromance in the NHL.

When he was traded he said the hardest part was not seeing his best friend everyday

First of all, how do you know he never worked on improving his skating? Just because he's a bad skater doesn't mean he didn't work on it. From everything I've ever heard about him, he's always been portrayed as a hard worker.

Only 11 of those 29 games was Jagr even on the team and in those playoffs he had 8 points in 11 games. Even then, he only played 60% of the time with G and Jags. You very conveniently only use the last 29 playoff games and leave out his 8 goals and 17 points (outscored Carter and Gagne) when they lost in the SCF.

He's not forgiven because he's a "kooky character", he actually got a lot of criticism for his boneheaded penalties and inconsistent play while he was in Philly. He's forgiven now because he's not a superstar so people didn't look to him to carry the team. He's a complimentary player who was a great team guy, a good leader, and he loved the city. He embraced Phildalphia and he "gets it" like few guys ever have before. If he was criticized he would stand up and answer the questions and never fired back. It's also pretty easy to love the guy now when we see him continuing to be a productive NHL player while we have Bumberger loafing around the ice every night. So glad we got an upgraded skater in that trade, sure has paid off.

yeah, he works hard during the offseason, keeping in tip-top shape...doing a lot of 12oz curls and heavy lifting of samwiches:

OMG, he's out on a boat, what a lazy bum!!
most nhl'ers who are dedicated to their craft aren't as flabby, ill-defined & flat-chested as hartsy right there

the shrimp-ish danny briere looks like mr universe next to him there...

So because he's on a boat in the offseason, you assume he never worked on his skating? Makes sense.

He played in 78 or more games in 6 of his 7 seasons with the Flyers. Now in his 14th NHL season, with 1,000 NHL games under his belt, at the age of 32 he's playing more this season than he has in his entire career and he's on pace to yet again score 20+ goals and 50+ points. These are not things that a player is able to accomplish if he's a terrible skater(which he is) and in terrible physical condition.

But you're right, we're so lucky to have Umberger and his 13 points.

Hartnell's great character hides bit his contribution to offensive plays. Great possession-player (currently best in Blue Jackets) when given support-role. Can truly carry on the play in opposite end.

If Team Canada would always be build on the most modern ice hockey values available Hartnell would by now be an Olympic gold medalist.
