I think the main reason Florida won't make it back this year is the amount of hockey played. It's very tough to go back-to back-to back. But the East is not very good. Except for March 2024 and games 1,4,6 of the finals, the Panthers looked like the best team in the league. Who from the East takes them out? Probably NYR has the best odds but I didn't feel that series was close, Shesty kept it competitive. I'm not impressed with Boston, Tampa is on the downswing, Carolina is always a thorn for Florida but they lost a lot, and Toronto in the playoffs lol.

3) Toronto inexplicably gets their shit together, but it requires not having wimps on offense, not having crap D (OEL won’t help that much), and not having problems in G, altogether too much for Toronno to overcome. Boston and Tampa aren’t up to it anymore, no matter what the experts proclaim. Carolina is also just average.
4) NYR somehow resolves their internal problems and stops thinking Rempe will send everyone to the hospital. Unlikely. Their stars aren’t tough enough.

I think we should see another SCF series in South Florida, another parade, and another week of wild parties.

The schedule will be brutal this year with the four nations cup mid season plus the games in Finland. With all the other regular stuff. I think injuries are the main concerns for this team, they need to survive the regular season.

The thing is that we've just played a lot of hockey the last two years. That's the biggest nemesis. We still look like the best in the East, but other teams will be fresher. Couple that with our style of play. It would be a monumental feat to win it again.

Lol still going strong, been driving it 60 miles roundtrip 3 days a week since 2022 after sitting in my garage for 2 years as a weekend toy, im around the 20k mile mark since i got them in 2017 and they have been rock crawled a couple of times in Ocala and Alabama.

When the time to change them comes i’m hoping to get them again but they don't make them in 38” and a 40” right now is out of the question for me without some axle work but i love them, just want to go up from 37” so lets see.

this may be a factor no matter what but i believe this team figured out how to pace itself last year. idk if anyone remembers me jumping up and down in the TBL series about our lack of urgency. i believe it was intentional, that the team managed the level of energy expended, trying to keep it just above what was required, knowing what they may need in the tank if they get to the final. the oilers were not the same type of team VGK were but we had plenty in reserve imo when we got there.

you could say the same about the regular season. i believe there was a strong push early in the season to establish playoff positioning and then some coasting through late winter, to the extent we had all but resigned ourselves to finishing 3rd in the atlantic.

for this reason, i put less weight on that factor. injuries are no doubt the biggest factor. if we stay healthy and the new pieces are serviceable, we should have another really strong campaign. that said, when you look back at some the playoff series, there were key moments when we got the save or the goal. who knows what would've happened if, say, we went down 3-1 to the NYR? a lot has to go right to go on a long run but i think our odds are as good or better than any other team's right now.

People also forget, the team took a vacation the last 3 weeks of March and first week of April

There's also the annual Ekblad injury the last 2 months or so of the season, as well as the annual Bennett injury. Barkov wont play 82 either most likely.

I agree that we did "Tampa it" at certain points in the season in order to reserve energy. But remember, Tampa fell apart after 3 consecutive trips to the Final. Now some of that was due to poor personnel decisions and trades, and players inevitably leaving, but the mileage on that team did play a role. I believe there's been a toll on this group. I'm almost wishing for like an early 2nd round exit, so that we can get recharged for a couple more runs. This is not the 80s Oilers or the Wings and Avs of the DPE who relied on skill and just more or less were okay with trading chances up and down and banking on their talent. We play a hard game, that requires a lot of skating, board play, and battling.

I think a good comparable is the 80s Isles, even if it was a different league back then. They played similar to us, hard working, physical, played good defense and goaltending. After 4 straight Cups and other deep playoff runs before that plus the 84 Final, they kinda just fell apart and immediately became a mediocre team for the rest of the 80s. For us to win b2b would be an incredible achievement. I believe we'll conserve energy in the regular season, but in the playoffs is where it'll start to show. The only saving grace might be the incredible will and work ethic of this bunch, coming to camp in even better shape than last year after a summer of Stanley Cup partying. I also concur with another poster before who said we probably won't get as lucky with injuries again. It's probably the Oilers this year, as long as McDavid, Drai, and Bouchard are healthy, they have the depth, they'll be hard to beat.
