I disagree. The Orr comparisons are justified. Fox is close. Don't get me wrong, as are Josi and Headman, but Makar is just on a different level. It'd be like Fox having a 3.9 GPA and Makar having over a 4.0.
Makar is on a different level physically, but maybe not overall. The things Makar does stand out and are obvious because he’s so fast and such a good overall skater. The stuff Fox pulls off is much more subtle, and really requires a deep understanding of the game to fully appreciate.

It’s a homer take, and a hipster take, but I’m actually more impressed by Fox because he does so much with clearly inferior physical tools compared to all of the other top defenders.

All of that said, Makar is ridiculous and it is just so awesome that he’s not on NJD or PHI right now.

They really aren't. let me know when Makar doubles his peers production or anything close to it.

This season Orr had 135 pts. Potvin was 2nd with 76.

I agree. For me Makar is the best of the same tier-including the 3 players mentioned. Orr wasn't just on a different tier. He was on a different planet. The greatest defenceman of all time was underrated ! Yes you read that correctly. How did he only get 3 Hart trophies ? Even in a year he wins the scoring race.:huh::huh:

The gap between Gretzky, Orr, Hasek and their peers is unmatched by McDavid, Makar and Vasi.

I don't disagree with the subtleties of Fox's game. I just don't think he's as complete a player as Makar is. Again, not off by a lot, but there's a difference. Not that I ever played at an extremely high level, but I was always an offensive defenseman, so it's part of the game I pay particular attention to. I wouldn't take my standpoint as taking anything away from Fox. The kid has the skills to be a generational D man, I just think Makar has an extra step on him.

well he's not making it up because there isn't really much room for him to improve

My client is friends with Toews and got to drink out of the Cup last night.
That is awesome. Lucky person. I don’t get the Islanders decided to keep Mayfield over him 🤣 always thought Toews was one of the most underrated players in the league. Good solid top 4 dman.

MAF can be a good option to back up Igor. Great personality and we finally have some frenchies in Laffy, Blais, and Gauthier (if he gets QO’d)

Wouldn’t mind Andrew Cogliano either, Drury tried to acquire him at the TDL

Makar has physical tools that Fox will never have. I also just think Fox doesn’t dominate enough on a shift to shift basis. He falls into the same trap Mika and Kreider have fallen into, they almost disregard 5v5 play and think they can just make it up on the PP. Panarin is slowly getting there too. Fox wants to blend in a little too much and I get that’s his game but sometimes it seems like he’s on autopilot instead of trying to make something happen every single shift.

Pidto and Daneyko hosting NHL Tonight on NHL Network is weird

3.9 vs. 4.0 is not a different tier.

Was gonna say the same, he did say "over a 4.0" though..but either way it's like a guy getting accepted to Harvard ( :sarcasm: ) vs. a guy getting accepted to every ivy league school. Both are incredible and I'm not sure why the prevailing feeling has to be that Fox is somehow this vastly inferior player all of a sudden. Makar is #1 in the world by a few hairs, Fox is tied for #2 with like 2 other guys.

I'd like to have the time to see who he put up those points against and like I said I only saw a small sample of games but I saw 2 different Josi's and look I admit that could be just a coincidence of samples but regardless he still had a great year.
I think maybe its simply because good teams have a larger quantity of good players. I know, thats not earthshattering news to anyone, but it just makes sense that they could more readily focus on him with little else to worry about. Probably not necessarily that he played like crap, he was just stifled.

So if their is a superstition about touching the Conf trophy what bad ju ju happens from dropping the cup?
Thats prob why it's a replica. BEFORE realizing that, I was like...... don't drop it! When Cogliano had it above his head) Thing prob weighs more than he does. If he did drop it, it would shatter into like 6 rings.

That Stanley Cup likely has a few more dents now…:sarcasm:

Did his cup runneth over?
