Big test today vs Brantford. They surprised us with wins against KIT&LDN. Even SAG. But I think its fair to say KIT looked a bit lackadaisical vs us & LDN overlooked us after potting 9 on us the day before.

BRNT is a really good team with elite players including the leagues leading scorer in Lardis. discipline will be huge as their PP is very dynamic.

A win here & it would convince me they've really rounded the corner this season. Unfortunately I gotta think Doucette is suspended & that's a big loss.

Yep that was brutal coaching and even worse management to pick that shit team. Could have had a roster similar to this:

Cristall-misa-sennecke
Heidt-catton-Mckenna
Rehkoph-ritchie-Martone
Wood-yager-Cowan
Howe

Molendyk-Schaefer
Gibson-parehk
Price-bonk
(Dickinson/mynio/yakemchuk)

George Starter
Bjarnason Backup
Ivankovic

Great game Sarnia! Did not expect us to push the pace of play but the boys skated hard all night. Still giving up too many odd man rushes. Bulldogs goal a prime example of that glaring issue. Surzycia an absolute stud once again and made a couple big time stops during those breakdowns not to mention shutting the door with those crazy pad saves in the dying minutes of the game. Guy has crazy focus in heated moments.

Not much negative you can say about any effort put fourth tonight. Great effort by all. Really seeing some guys starting to show more. Luecke really starting to come around like others have mentioned. He has a nose for the net so I don't mind him trying to cause some havoc up in the line up. Sting gotta actually get pucks to the net though. They waste so much time cycling three guys high on the PP. Drives me nuts. Opponent always outnumbers us for rebounds and clears easily because of this. So many loose pucks sat idle tonight with only 1 guy in black/yellow around the net.

6-2 in the last 8 games :thumbu:

Well I'll be damned! Sure looks as tho this team has figured it out. They played a terrific hockey game tonight vs a quality team. Surzycia was superb, but so was Egerov for Brantford. He made so many amazing saves. Was a great goalie duel.

The PP actually looks.... Dangerous??? Comes up with a big goal again.. puck movement looked legitimately good. Team D looks so much better 5on5. Especially against the rush.

23-40-11 continue to play great. 19-81-24 are really playing well together. 12-17 have some good chemistry & what a sweet play on that 3rd goal by them & now Luecke all of a sudden is looking like a decent player! Big, can skate, physical & goes to the net. Scored & suckered Lardis into a bad penalty. What a nice surprise he's been lately.

O'Brien-Hurt are awesome. 2A for O'Brien. +3 for both. Hurt laid a big hit on the 2nd. Both defend so hard. Fischer-Young control the game out there. Even at times vs elite lines like Lardis' tonight. Although Fischer was at fault for their only GA. Bridgewater is really becoming reliable back there.

6-2 in the last 8 as Ferda said. All of a sudden only two points out of 5th with a ton of home games upcoming. Props to Letang. We all piled on him HEAVILY (lol) & since the Haley firing he's been a new coach. More vocal, using the tablet, showing urgency & playing guys like Karimov more. Kudos to him! Gotta keep it up!

haha you always gotta be the voice of reason eh? You're right though. Coaching staff deserves some credit after the changes. Hope they utilize the lighter schedule this month as well. We only play 3 times over the next 20 days I believe. Hope that is time well spent on the practice ice.

Trust me I'm still not happy with him. Watching Karimov actually play consistently only further pisses me off he was being benched most nights for Johnston.

If we get to the end of the season & we miss being 5th, 6th whatever by under 5 points I'll look back to the underwhelming coaching the first 30 games.

But can't deny the drastic improvements over the last 8 games. It feels obvious Legwand must've told him after Haley was let go your next if u don't wake up a bit here because he's been far more urgent, vocal etc on the bench.

perfect! Just as bad as this year, is this because I left abunch French guys off the team that wouldn’t help.

Be very surprised if a contender didn’t want him as a very good back up

Issue is he's an OA. Can't see a contender using a slot on a backup.

Really hoping he's getting some NCAA interest! He's had a terrific season. Been the best goaltending we've had since 2017.

Gotta say the more I think about tonights game the more I am pleased with it. Brantford has some really high end guys & they outplayed them a good % of the night. Outside of 3-4 bad turnovers I loved how they played in their own end. Team like that is gonna generate great looks because of their skill, but they did a great job limiting how good of opportunities they were. Especially for Lardis & O'Brien.

It was a really mature performance. Stayed to their game, didn't get discouraged by tying goal & while up 2-1 in the 3rd they didn't turtle they kept pushing until they went up 3-1. They were really disciplined which I mentioned as a big key. Puck management was strong for the most part.

The effort & desperation in their game has been rather impressive over these last 9 games. Being physical, making other teams earn it, not backing down to better rosters. Wins over KIT, LDN, SAG, BRNT is a damn good sign for this club. Tonight without Doucette, too.

The top-4 has become really reliable with 5-13 & 6-72. They are defending hard & making teams earn their ice. Bridgewater is becoming a solid OHL Dman & I haven't minded Omeri with him. Not seeing nearly as many brain farts/mind numbing plays or easy/free goals for other teams.

Edwards is back to looking damn good at C, Karimov looks great in the T9, Wainwright is actually looking pretty damn good on the wing with Di Iorio as his C. Luecke is taking the increased ice time & running with it. Brown continues to look amazing out there & that line w/40-11 no matter the opponent seems to play most of the games in the offensive zone.

The PP is finally looking solid. 4 straight games with a goal. 4/20 in that time for 20%. Tonight outside the 2nd one I thought the other PPs looked legitimately dangerous. Quicker puck movement, using the bumper more & getting it down low to Karimov who's really good around the net. the best part is both units look solid. Let's hope this keeps up. Be huge for them.

They are becoming quite an elite face-off team too. Beamish is clicking at almost 60%. He went 18/21 tonight! Wainwright is at 55%. Filak at 51% & for 16 year olds Edwards & Di Iorio are just under 50% which is pretty good. That helps everywhere but especially on the PP/PK & late game.

In rookie scoring they have the 5th (Edwards), 7th (Di Iorio), 8th (Karimov, imagine if he played T9+PP all yr..) scorers. Beamish is 23rd, but has played half as many games as the guys ahead. If he just had 10 more games he'd more than likely be in the top 10 as well. So 4 rookies being among the more consistent & productive is really great to see. Among true rookies (16 year olds) Edwards is 3rd & Di Iorio is 4th with the two ahead being Wassilyn & Belchetz. Who play on very high scoring teams & play with elite, NHL drafted players. Obviously they are elite too, but helps playing with He/Roobroeck & Greentree/Protas compared to our team which has good players, but certainly not elite ones like those 4.

A lot of positives lately which is great to see. They now sit 10 points clear of 9th & are only 1 point behind 6th & 2 points behind 5th. Games in hand for all yes, but still considering they had a 2-17 stretch or whatever it was you take that. Ton of home games rest of the way. Ton of rest. Team has put themselves in a solid spot to compete for 5th or at least 6th depending on how the next weeks plays out with trade deadline.

Back to back great games! What is this sorcery? It's been an excellent response in the last two games. Honestly, I was expecting a letdown game from them after the huge win over London. Instead they came out with the same intensity and played another great game. They were ready to play from the opening faceoff and were really disciplined against a team they couldn't afford to take penalties against. As Ferda mentioned this team is by no means perfect but I've found this recent stretch very encouraging.

Surzycia continues to amaze me. Stopped 29/30, including three huge stops in the third. Lardis and O'Brien on tip plays and then came across to rob O'Brien in the final 30 seconds. He made great reads on all three saves. He's one of the most underrated goalies in the OHL.

O'Brien is such a rock on the backend. He's a great guy for Hurt to model his game after. Isn't a puck-moving d-man but makes all the simple plays that he needs to. Whether that's a good breakout pass, getting a shot through like on the Luecke goal, or digging in to win a battle like he did to start the Wainwright goal. I've loved what's he brought to this team and was glad to see him get rewarded with his first multi-point game in the O.

Fischer was excellent in the third. He was flying all around the ice. In two seperate sequences he went back to breakup a play in his own zone and then went up the ice to nearly create an odd-man advantage. His toolbox is so intruging. He can skate like the wind and has shown a lot more physicality this year. I can't wait to see him put it all together. He's going to be such a force!

The forwards have looked fantastic since the changes to the lines. The most encouraging part tonight was the chemistry Wainwright and Di Iorio seem to be finding. The team has needed Wainwright to find his offence back so I was glad to see him get 1G/1A. Another two point effort from Brown too. He's playing faster, is hard on the forecheck, and is a lot more responsible defensively. Always was in a good spot for his d-man to outlet to him. Luecke continues to step up with a great tip on the GWG. 3G/1A in his last 6 games.

A few other things I saw/heard. Johnston was one of the last guys off the ice and seemed to be a little dejected. He was looking around, seemingly taking it all in, possibly one last time. Fischer came over to give him a little hug. He didn't produce the way we all wanted but he seemed like a good guy. If that is it for him in a Sting uniform, I wish him all the best in whatever comes next.

Seca was out for the press conference tonight. He said that they have a new coach coming in and to expect that to be announced in the next few days

Yah he started out great. For whatever reason he just doesn't have that internal drive to be the best he can be because he legitimately has a good skillset. Big kid, good hands, decent skating. He could definitely be a good PT producer.

Disappointing it didn't work out and it cost them a 4th which isn't cheap. Can't wait for London to use that pick to take the next Marner.

Yah I saw the interview too. You think they would've announced it already if he's on his way, but whatever lol. Wonder who it is. Hopefully someone with a proven track record of some sort. As Seca said the incredibly slow schedule this month should be a benefit with a new assistant joining.

My first thought was Steve O'Rourke from Oshawa because I don't know who else would be available in the middle of the year. He would fit the bill of having a proven track record. It feels like it's more likely to be someone that none of has thought of

I have to say I find it pretty funny the staff finally implement changes folks on this forum have been calling for for weeks, if not months, and the team finally goes on a little bit of a burner. Really makes you wonder LOL.

All credit goes to the players working their tails off all year, thrilled to see them enjoying some of the fruits of their labour. Hopefully the Sting can keep it up!

Didn't we already try the Delmore experiment? I know he was only an associate for 2 seasons but they were pretty rough years. 46-90 while with the Sting in that role. I hope it's someone without past ties to the team or city.

Completely guessing but don't feel we see Sarnia sell off anyone substantial. Team has started to figure it out. 2 points back of 5th. I think they are prioritizing playoff experience over getting picks with such a young team. Trading Young would be a huge blow as we've seen how bad they've been without him & it would put a young guy into a spot they may not be ready for like we saw during the horrid stretch.

I have mixed feelings about it, but Fischer/Young/Wainwright are all gonna be back & all would still have good - great value next year. If they surprise & are one of the better teams in the conference they could maybe push for it twice in a row like we've talked about before & if they aren't you could deal all 3 of those guys & be much better suited to handle it while adding a ton of assets for the following year.

Seca said last night he is looking around for guys that fit their core/window which I like. Never know if a contender adds a big piece or two & it pushes a promising U18 player down the depth chart & makes them available.

If a team blows their doors off for Young or Fischer I gotta think they'd take it. So never know in that way, but TBD on if that happens.

Sounds like it'll be a crazy week around the league. Intrigued to see how it shakes out.

Only worry is losing wainwright and young next year and getting nothing. Don't have to stay, that's been my fear with this new NCAA option no one has to stay to waste another year as OA after their last chance of NHL draft in CHL might just move on as full NCAA free agents.
Has to be in thoughts of DS, I know I would be worried about that type of thing happening to us, could really hurt us. Any Thoughts?

It's definitely a worry moving forward for every season. I more worry about it with elite guys. Like Edwards in a year or two.. maybe he'll wanna revisit wanting to go that route.

So far only 1 player (to my knowledge) has committed that wasn't an OA & that's the 19 yr old goalie in Sudbury.

Wainwright likely isn't at the top of any schools list as of now. Young definitely could be. You'd hope there'd be some transparency from the player or his agent with the team if it's something any player is thinking of or wanting to do.

Hopefully they stay as OAs then go that route if they can't earn any pro offers.

Not sure there will be transparency as there isn't usually transparency with GMs when trading players is there, they dont discuss that? Players hold alot more of the cards now. That's why this deadline will be very different the GMs might have to have conversations with 19 year olds on intentions. Hearing other teams having those discussions.
