As a contending team you'd give a King's ransom for a goalie who's never won a game in this league? That would be very bold. Not saying Thornton won't be good but he's never done it. There are several examples of really good goalies struggling in their first year in the OHL. Look at Kari Piiroinen in Windsor last year. He's a really good goalie, as we saw in the WJ but really struggled in year 1 in WSR despite being on a pretty good WSR team. And not saying that'll happen to Thornton, but the point is that it happens and you're going to trade a ton for someone you've never seen do it before? I was talking to @StingUpdates about this earlier today. It will come down to whether or not the Sting brass cares about "doing right" by Thornton. If they don't and are willing to keep him as the backup until the deadline, then they can force 1 team to pony up and out bid the others. But if Thornton's agent starts asking for a trade because Gaudreau is obviously playing all the time, and the Sting brass feels like they need to do it to give him a chance to play now, I think it will be far less in return than people are assuming it would be.
I guarantee sting won’t move him for Atleast another month until he’s had Atleast 6 or 7 starts to show what he can do. They aren’t just going to trade him in the next week or two because his agents say so but they also won’t hold onto him until the new year, I’m think thinking he goes in late November or December, but again this all depends on how good he plays, he let 5 in tonight but Kitchener is suppose to be a contender and he played real good tonight. If he is inconsistent or just ends up not playing that great he might not need a trade this season and might great a trade in the off-season to be a starter next season.

I do think the OHL (and any junior hockey) is unlike pro in the sense that it's a lot more common for trades to happen because the GM feels like he needs to "do right" by the kid. No idea the relationship between your GM and Thornton and/or Thornton's agent. Just saying that could play a factor into this all, whereas in the pros that doesn't really happen very often.

Side note: just look at his elite prospects page, he's from Oshawa?? Now an Anson Thornton fan lol

Ugly ugly game. I left early. Kitchener either completely dummied us in every aspect of the game or our guys completely forgot how to play hockey. Thornton was the only bright spot, he deserved much better of an outcome. He had several MASSIVE saves. Kitchener manhandle our forwards in almost every zone entry. Sarnia was smothered all night.

Chance to redeem themselves tomorrow. See if they want it or not.

Ya but just because the agent says he wants a trade and the sting want to do right by the kid doesnt mean they are going to trade him next week after he’s played 1 or 2 games and his value is as low as it could be. That would be dumb if the sting, it doesn’t hurt the kid one bit to wait a month or two, he will be a starter in the second half of the season and all of next season regardless, so he can get a few starts in sarnia until then.

You guys are in an enviable position having 2 #1 quality goalies. There are a number of teams that desperately need a bonafide starter. You play your cards right, you could move Thornton for a king's ransom. I bet Windsor, Barrie, are just two of a handful of teams that come calling. Windsor has a good team with high hopes and realise that they can't win with Medina as their #1.

If he gets traded, it should be the Stings turn to fleece some other team.

Trade him to Barrie for 18 year old former 1st round pick defenceman Connor Punnett and draft picks.

or maybe Punnett and 19 yr old back up; that would be a very solid return imo.
I think it might be best to trade Thornton now. It would look good on the sting to give the kid a chance to the starter, and I’m not convinced his trade value will be more later. Not only could his value stay the same or decrease with exposure, waiting until Lennox and/or others become available could lead to ‘how low will you go’

-3 for supryka anyone else miss Degurse yet

Is Degurse no longer w the team?
I get that kitchener is a conference favorite but by listening to the game on chok it sounded like the sting were just dominated all game, isn't our defense suppose to be our strong point on this team? Seems as if they're out of sorts. It's super early but the lack of discipline in penalty taking seems to be a concern as well as the bone head decisions by some of the older defenceman, supryka cost them the game in overtime against Windsor. Thoughts

New to the board here... Sting fan for years and never knew about this. Great insights.
I watched the game through CHL Live last night and this team is in big trouble. They have been outshot badly in every game and don't generate much offense. And their defense is average at best. Thank God for the 2 goalies who are both unreal.

What has been everyone's thoughts on Namestnikov, him being drafted by the sting 3 overall and his play thus far?

Idk hard to say what we are yet, Kitchener and Windsor were predicted to finish 1st and 2nd in the conference and we were predicted 6th. Those teams are also a lot older than our young club. I think we did ok against the top seeds especially with soo many players playing in their fist 3 OHL games.

gotta give the kid some credit honestly. I’ve seen him be put on his ass countless times so far this year and he always pops up and isn’t afraid to try something new with the puck. I think he needs to learn when the appropriate times to do those things are as he is playing with fire and risking injury. Some could say he can be a bit reckless. I think he’s just trying to find his game in this league. I’m not worried just yet, but eventually he will need to start putting the puck in the net.

Letang definitely needs to address the amount of penalties being taken that’s ridiculous. And he needs to split up reesor and mast those 2 are your best defensive dman and they are on one pair it’s a great shut down pair but the other dman need help in their own end. I’d make the pairs for tonight…
Reesor Malyavin
Supryka Mast
Dillingham Pryce/daviault

Gaudreau

I don’t quite understand the Pryce situation. I haven’t seen anything from him. He looks misplaced most of the time when he’s on the ice. Daviault should be above him on the depth chart.

What frustrated me most last night was the Stings lack of urgency when down. I thought a Alan Letang coached team was one that came at you hard on the forecheck, hard on the back check. You didn’t see much of that last night and the team looked completely uninterested and played more as individuals then as a team. It was super frustrating. Not sure how it looked on TV but being there in person it looked really rough. Kitchener easily could have had 7-8 goals…easily. Sting just looked completely lost out there, in every aspect of the game.

Letang just rolls through the lines and doesn't make any adjustments that I have seen. It makes little sense having 2 rookies at C when they have a lot of veterans.... I don't get the love for Namestikov at all. He is small, plays on the perimeter and gets knocked down every shift. I like some other rookies more but because he is a 1st rounder, he will get a long leash. I think the same about Voit since he is an NHL pick.
I actually think Pryce will be a good player. Probably lacks confidence being a scratch but he plays tough and joins the rush at times.
Supryka is a dumpster fire on D.... I would love to trade him and get Degurse back in the lineup.

Big one tonight. Not because it has to be a W but more a good showing. Get back to how they played in the opener.

More aggressive & using their speed to push back the other team. Feel like Namestnikov gets his first point tonight.

A little more urgency needs to be shown tonight!! I wonder who is in net for London? Is Brochu playing every game? If backup is in net they better show some urgency on offence--should be a good one

Ya I think namestnikov gets a point, and yes so early in the season and isn’t a must win but definitely need to play better and show good signs at both ends of the ice

Tied after one… can’t say I saw one good pass in the offensive zone all period.
It can only get better.
