Yes, but I'm not arguing that Pavs is a great starter. I'm arguing against the notion that he's the worst in the league. If we're a bubble team by just about every measure, how come it's all Pavs fault that we're a bubble team?
If we are an average team with average forwards, average defenders, and is average in the standings, just how are we doing this with a crap goalie? I'm sorry, but I don't buy it.
It comes back to save percentage. What excuse can you give that Pavelec has a lower save percentage than an average NHL goalie by 8 points? Not the TOP goalies, an AVERAGE goalie?
If you are going to say it's because the Jets are terrible defensively, then explain Devan Dubnyk. He is by no means a top NHL goalie, yet he still manages a league average .914 on the Oilers.
So, either you are saying that the Jets are much worse defensively than the Oilers (and every other team in the NHL) or you are admitting that Pavelec is sub par.
I don't see anyone debating this very black and white fact. All I get is emotional retorts that I hate Pavelec. It's silly. FTR I'm not saying you are doing that to me.
I see two sides here: The one side that has a very calculated assessment of our goaltending with lots of very solid stats to back it up, and the other side, who 'feels' like Pavelec is playing good enough.
ALSO can someone explain to me why, when someone isn't vociferously shaking the pom poms for a particular player, they are all of the sudden saying that they are the worst player in the world and are responsible for every single loss???
What I (and many others are saying) is that if Pavelec was performing at a league average save percentage, we would almost certainly be in the top 8 and most likely holding the division lead. That's it. There are no torches and pitchforks here.
I mean, for the love of God, if we can't debate players and their performances, then what the heck are we all doing here for hours everyday?
