Wings have 2 blue chip center prospects and a 1C in Larkin. So Cozens is not a need.

They are super thin on defense, and ASP looks like a future superstar in the making. Cozens looks mid two seasons in a row.

Thoughts?

Maybe I'm overrating prospects but I wouldn't do that as Detroit. As much as I rag on the rebuild ASP is one of the few with very high potential. Cozens is very meh to me.
Exactly.

ASP just won back to back top WJC defenseman for the first time since Fetisov and is well on his way to winning top SHL D all by the time he turns 20.

Cozens is paving for like 40pts and is highly paid.

I don’t touch it

He is really the only dman in the org that can move the puck effectively besides seider and edvidsson and with that said he still isn't worth cozens
You do realize Cozens is pacing for back to back 3rd line C production while making over $7m right?

Buffalo is trying to get harder to play against, for this season. They’re not out of it yet. We just seen how quickly Detroit flew up the standings over just a 4 game streak. Buffalo can do the same.

If we get closer to the deadline and the Sabres perspective changes, and they’ve dealt Byrum already, then all bets are off. I will say, the teams who trade those young Dmen in trades like this, tend to lose these trades.

Still think it’s much more likely Detroit, and others, are after Byrum right now, knowing his arbitration rights are coming this summer, and the Sabres are nowhere near a deal, this far into the season. Doesn’t help we’re starting to hear he wants different roles, etc.

So you haven't watched the guy in nearly 6 years but tossed out the idea of trading a top prospect in the league for him based on how he was pre-draft?

Do Yakupov next...

Cozens is on a pretty rough contract. Hard to give up a top prospect for such an underperforming player.

I think the foundation for a Cozens trade (if with Detroit) would be a young-ish, decent NHLer like Rasmussen/Veleno + some secondary assets. Something that the Sabres probably don't love, but they just can't pretend Cozens is a full value asset at this point.

You might get Buffalo to throw you a middling pick or prospect for Rasmussen as a replacement for Greenway, but you’re not getting anything remotely approaching the upside of Cozens for him.

Yeah...personally, I think the player Detroit may be interested in, is Byram. Left-shot D on an expiring contract, but I think there are a couple of hold-ups with this. I think Detroit doesn't want him without an extension in place and Buffalo doesn't really see anyone on Detroit who immediately helps them get better or isn't just an aging veteran/cap dump.

Byram is an RFA with 3 yrs if team control left iirc.
Which is probably why there was a bunch of smoke, but no fire. I think the initial deal might have seen something like Byram w/extension for Holl or Chiarot + prospect + pick,

Unless that prosprct was your best U23 player that was DOA. Buffalo us not taking Holl ir Chiarot back for Byram.

Byram is not a rental. He is an RFA. No pressure to trade him at the deadline

Not every team does contracts during the season. If they dont, It does not mean he is getting traded.

Veleno probably doesnt get a QO

Rassmussen doesnt getvyou as anything close to Cozens.

Rassmusden is magic beans at this point. Buffalo might trade Krebs for him if they arent keeping greenway

TBD. He's a responsible fast and has been getting some 1st line minutes over this 4 game winning streak.

Correct

Buffalo can dream but that's a bad offer that Detroit easily turns down. Rasmussen is not actually available especially for a downgrade.

As for the original proposal, this move is way too much risk for Detroit while simultaneously reducing the upside. Bad proposal for Detroit.

Veleno's assignment is likely more due to spreading out the offense and trying to increase a guy's value.

I wouldn't be surprised if he or Berggren (Or both) are gone next year. Mazur likely makes the team out of camp, Danielson could be camp or mid-season, MBN looks well-rounded and NHL sized as a possible addition, and if Buchelnikov can get out of his contract there's no reason to not bring him over.

Do people NOT realize Buffalo only has offensive dmen right now? Why the f would they want 4 guys 2 of which wouldn’t even play the Pp?

It's sort of like the Eichel era when every trade proposal was for a winger for Eichel. Or going back further to Myers where people would propose other tall defensemen. Maybe it's a cognitive thing. *shrug*

Sheesh I know. But it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out stuff like that. If you know the sport, just a simple 20 second glance at the roster would tell you everything you need To know 🤷‍♂️

They just don’t care. Most trade ideas thrown around on this forum are “whatever’s in my team’s junk drawer for [a player I actually want]” except when you’re closer to the bottom of the standings than the top, they seem to actually think we actually want their junk.
