There really isn’t much argument to support that.

If you guys actually want to trade Monty I’m sure there would be more than a few teams interested but Toronto probably isn’t one of them and definitely not the team that would give you the best value.
As a Panthers fan who saw enough of both, albeit at different points in their careers, I like them both but the nod goes to Stoli and his simple game.

Yeah I like Monty. I think he is a decent goalie on a bad team.
I just don’t get why that poster looks at the Leafs and thinks that is the best destination for him. We have plenty of areas that need improvement but goaltending certainly isn’t one of them right now.

Trading Monty = Forever rebuild
That's your logic? Like, everything falls down on Monty?

Yikes!

No, trading anything not bolted down is forever rebuild. There is no reason to sell Montembeault for an irrelevant return (like goalies get in season) when Montreal doesn't even have a backup NHL ready.

Running Primeau and Dobes/Hughes for the rest of the year would damage Montreal's reputation with their own players and UFAs.

How do you even face Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovsky and Guhle who just comitted long term to your team after that? How do you tell them the rebuild is going to last 5 more years the time Fowler establish himself?

You're acting like this is EA NHL which explains why you had no idea who Jacob Perreault was.

Lol, c'mon man
Nobody but the extremely knowledgeable hockey fan knows who the f*** is Jacob "I will play in Europe really soon" Perreault is

As for the rest of your post, I don't know man. It might suck for the players in the first year, but if I'm the GM, I'm trying to build a winner, and currently there's absolutly no winner here
Statu Quo clearly won't work, as we are down the barrel anyway.
The main problem is competition in the Atlantic: We can't currently compete against the top teams, and we have to wait for them to get weaker, and us to get stronger. We ain't going to make the playoffs this year (Duh!) and I don't see it for next year too.
So we might as well suck ass as much as possible, get good assets, and go back to war

The assets you're going to get from Montembeault would likely have a negligible impact on the success of the rebuild.

The damage you're doing to the attractivity of a market that already have issues getting good FAs to come here would likely not have a negligible impact on the success of the rebuild.

It's way better for the team to keep Montembeault than get a 2nd or a late 1st. He will be key helping whichever goalie is coming up next year. You could say we could just sign a new one during the summer for that, but here is the current list available:
Adin Hill
Ville Husso
Jake Allen
Alexander Georgiev
Frederik Andersen
Vitek Vanecek
Karel Vejmelka
Mackenzie Blackwood
Dan Vladar
Ilya Samsonov
Charlie Lindgren
Kevin Lankinen
David Rittich
Alex Lyon

Not a lot and the few good ones will be highly sought after. You're just tempting fate to get caught with your pants down and have to run Dobes and a 2nd tier backup in 2025-2026.

Team Canada goalie. He's a couple tiers away from Price. Doesn't take a genius to judge. Compare their play on the PK. Price tracks the play and is ready to stop the puck. Monty follows the trend and plays on his toews.

I think if Toronto wants an upgrade at G, Monty is probably not in the short list of what they are looking for. I also thik that Monty would have comparable (if not better) stats if he were on a team like the Leafs.

Isn't Woll the future there? Also, isnt that an awesome name for a goalie? "The Woll" reminds me of a poster of Patrick Roy i had as a child, where he is making a huge save in front of a wall made out of bricks. lol

Even for a team that's expecting to lose a lot for the next year or two, you still need competent goaltending. You can't just put garbage in net on purpose to tank. That's a bad, bad idea. You'll just demoralize the entire roster.

The last time I can remember a team traded away a goalie for being too good during a tank was Buffalo in 2015. They traded Neuvirth and Enroth because they could make a save. Buffalo got their tank reward with Eichel, but still hasn't made the playoffs since.

You can't welcome a culture of losing. It doesn't go away quickly.

Monty is good but doesn't deserves to be named in the same sentence as Price
