Samsonov Post Game Interview

Like after watching his post game interview, Samsonov seemed to be having an anxiety attack during the interviews, just watch and listen to his breathing. I just don't know what to say, like I'm not a Dr., but it clearly bothers him being in front of the media.

Sorry to bring this up here as a non-leaf fan, but is it possible to send him down? I think the situation may be similar to the Edmonton situation, where the team intrinsically or explicitly knows how bad their goaltending is and they start to grip their sticks too much and play too recklessly to try and cover up the goaltending woes. Once Campbell was sent down, you could see them start to play with some more defensive confidence. For the simple act of sending down the goalie/buying them out, it may be the best for both parties, especially if Samsonov is feeling lots of pressure.

I feel for Sammy and want him to figure it our and find success but his time is simply running out.

Yeah likely scenario. when you have limited assets to trade cause dubie wasted them on rentals and lost them for nothing or signed players like mrazek and Ritchie only to trade them away with picks, and no cap space, also another dubie gift. Well treliving was screwed right from jump

Samsonov just maintained solid play for a bit longer (crumbled end of year and playoffs).

Unfortunately doesnt seem like he has the mental fortitude to do this job. Probably ends up back in the KHL soon.

I feel like Kyle wanted to make big changes and MLSE stepped in like they always do and restrict our GMs and that might be the reason he asked for more money knowing he also had a solid backup plan.

maybe we need some misery, I mean it's been 8 years sure we have been the underdogs most of the time but major changes should have happened after we lost to MTL.

Samsonov needs to go down to the AHL.

Watching that interview, he's in no shape to start on the NHL.

Ken Dryden wrote about the pressure NHL goalies are under in his book The Game. To paraphrase, he wrote about how difficult it was on him on game days and how different it was on days off. He spoke of the dressing room when one player asked who's starting tonight, and another player said to the effect "Well, Kenny's chirping away like a bird and Bunny's throwing up in the shower. What do you think?". Apparently Dryden barely spoke on game days until the game was over.

I don't think Samsonov is up to it.

I don't feel like Kyle wanted to make big changes at all. Nothing Kyle did or said makes me believe he wanted to trade any of the core at any point. In fact, what I heard from him was the opposite.

Kyle was allowed to fire Babcock (although pleaded with Shanny not to have to do it himself) while still being owed a stupid amount of money. MLSE, as always, agreed to do whatever Kyle wanted to be done and paid Babcock a huge sum of money to not be here.

What we are seeing today are the results of Kyle Dubas being the GM for half a decade. It ain't pretty.

I wouldn't have him go near the Marlies. Growlers or bust! If he fails to report, you terminate his contract. Do all you can to encourage him to GTFO off to the KHL. I would make him the Growlers second backup goalie and not even start him.

It's not his fault at this point, it's on the club that keeps sending him out there imo. We don't need to see anymore, Samsonov isn't capable of playing here.

It's never quite as simple as cutting bait via waivers when the team would still be on the hook for a cap charge. Keefe essentially throwing his goalie under the bus doesn't seem to work in the best interests of the team either unless Treliving already does in fact have a plan to deal with this situation.

He's been bad though, I think the AHL is the best place for him right now...

We also have enough space to keep him up with the team, let him work with coaches, and don't give him any games.

Its just appalling listening to some of these comments about Samsonov, whose definitely down & out. The anxiety hes going through etc. Yeah sure he can't handle it and yes the Leafs need a keeper but the venom that is spewed by some of these posters is too much. Its hard enough for goalie who seems to be able to handle it.
I have 2 sons who suffer from mental illness. Lots of frustration & tears over the years watching and patiently working through their development. I just shake my head. The world we live in. Growup!!!

That's a fair comment but when fans are abusive, belittle him etc... that is not helping the situation. Before anything he needs more help. MLSE have the money and resources to give him the best.
