I'll take the other side of that bet on Mateychuk. I think he's a top 4 with a very significant chance of being a top pair guy.

And I could easily see Cayden Lindstrom as a top liner. Is it more likely than him being a second liner? I don't know, but I think in terms of actual value to his team I think he's probably going to be on that level.

Jet Greaves just had an excellent year. He would have to get signficantly worse to end up where you have him likely to be.

I think the likeliest outcome for Mateychuk is somewhere between 2nd and 3rd pair D. Someone who might end up being a 3D but through most of his prime years in the league is more likely 4D or 5D.

It's hard to choose between 1st and 2nd for Lindstrom but went with 2nd since I want to be moderate with my expectations.

Jet Greaves is currently what I would call "a fringe player/injury callup". Someone who may play a few games a year with the team but mainly sits or is playing at lower level. That's what he was for us last year, and it's also his floor if you didn't notice.

You have a far more realistic view of the prospects than many people. I am higher on some of the D like Elick. But most of the prospects will be having careers that won’t even match a fringe NHL guy like Zach Dalpe.
Dalpe matches my definition of fringe player really well. I think Justin Peters is a good example of that for a goalie (they could also be labeled 3Gs or injury callups) and Dillon Heatherington or Taylor Fedun for defenseman.
