Anaheim is playing Vat on the 3rd pairing. What will happen when Fowler returns? Do they finally flip Vatanen for a winger?

We're playing him there mostly to make sure we don't have a pair that feature 2 of Holzer, Beauch, Bieksa, Megna at the same time. When Fowler comes back it will be either Vatanen or Montour on the 3rd pair. I personally don't think we should trade Sami until the offseason, but of all our NHL defensemen he is probably the one most likely to get dealt.

Lets see....as a Leafs fan....who could i offer.....lol

He was offering an overly reasonable reponse to your pointless post.

To the OP, I believe there's more than enough ice time to go around among our top D as they all bring different elements to the table. The emergence of Montour could possibly make Vatanen expendable, but only for a piece that's A) Cost controlled and B)Makes an immediate impact on our forward group with the ability to drive a line. Otherwise I'd personally rather just keep our deep D core intact and use 'B' assets to add a rental forward or two.

My guess is when Fowler is healthy and assuming no one else goes out Montour and Beauch move down to the 3rd and Fowler-Vats becomes the second pair. Holzer/Megna demoted. Sami Still has the third highest ice time for the healthy Ducks D men. IE Vats will still hold significant value to the Ducks.

Vats would work on Toronto, Now you have made it clear JVR doesn't work because you can't sign him.

If you can't sign JVR there is no way in hell you can sign any of the big 3

So how about this

To Toronto Vatenan

To Ducks Kapenan and a 1st

We on the right track?

Nice spelling, by the way. Anyways, another Kapanen trade....

Don’t want Vatanen in Toronto. Not the type of guy we should target.

Well no, really don't see any reason to sell Vatanen for a prospect and pick right now.

I'm not sure if the Canucks can fare well with their shutdown defenseman gone. As much as Vatanen is lauded for his offensive capabilities, he lacks the shutdown skills to keep the puck out of the net. After all, it is not as the Canucks' goaltenders are doing very well.

Prepared to give up the likes of Bozak or JVR?

Well they said the ducks couldn't afford to sign JVR, so he would appear to be a no go for the ducks.

but Bozak? ya absolutely Marleau is proving to be an effective center in Matthews absence so Bozak could ed up expendable

Ok so if you can't sign JVR, and can't sign any of the big 3 because they be more expensive than JVR then what are we looking at from the Leafs?
