Anyone remember when Bruce would host those call in shows after the game? One night Bruce's guest was Bobby Orr...some dude calls in & says live on the air..."Bobby Orr you're one of the greatest hockey players ever...& Bruce Beck you're the biggest dick!":laugh::laugh:

Poor Bruce.
How can anyone call Bruce a dick no less biggest dick? He was too bland to be anything.

Funny you should say that. That same guy must've felt guilty & called back & month or so later & just kept repeating, "Bruce, I love you! Bruce, I love you!" Bruce kept trying to interrupt, "That's great, Eddie, but what's your question!":laugh::laugh:

You would've figured MSG would've added a delay by then or at least screened their callers better, but nope. Them was the good old days of cable TV when you should expect the unexpected. Funny shit.

Had to listen to most of the game because it was tennis night, but glad the boys sent him out with a win and a shutout. I already hate this team enough, not showing up for his last game would have left me even more angry and annoyed with them. Going to miss Sam so much.

Edit: Maybe the curse is over with him retiring. This one will last a lifetime...

First rangers goal call Ron Greschner , first PP goal Ruotsalainen (although I don’t know when he really started using his famous it’s a power play goal line regularly ) to his last PP goal with JT miller to zibanejad as his last goal , it’s been pretty cool sam, from your rival , happy retirement

Sam Rosen provided several of the best moments of my life. Rangers hockey was my vice for a long time, and hearing the old jazz MSG intro and his voice always gave me a sense of calm and enjoyment. I will truly miss him, as I miss JD, Al Trautwig, Bob Page, and Red Light Messina. He's been part of our lives for such a long time. A class act through and through.

One less reg win than the Devils. 2 less than Florida.
Our inability to stay in games really bit us in the arse
I never truly get these posts.

Yes. 110% we missed out on what genuinely should have been a given a playoff spot. Does anyone actually think “anything” could happen if we got in? Our playoff spot would have been completely performative. Whether we won a few more games or not, the team was/is still entirely shit. Would a few extra arbitrary points in the standings have changed that?

He was a member of the family.
40 of the 99 years of Rangers history. Just think about that. The unbelievable history of the North American professional hockey, the NHL, the Original 6 teams, the Rangers specifically...this man has been THE VOICE of the Rangers for 40% of the organization's entire history. It's absolutely mind-blowing. The Rangers are a community, a family. And he is, unequivocally, the greatest Ranger in history. Bar none.

Not sure about how old you are, but at least for me (in my late 30s, grew up in the 90s), to be a kid and have our three local teams have a lineup of:

- Sam Rosen & JD (Rangers)
- Doc Emerick & Chico Resch (Devils)
- Howie Rose & Joe Micheletti (Isles)

is absolutely insane. Six icons of the sport, six legends in their own right...my word, were we spoiled.

I go back before that, when it was just two teams in the late 70s, early 80s.

For the Isles it was Jiggs McDonald & Ed Westphal. Ed was a bit of a clown, way too much of a homer, but Jiggs was actually very good.

Before Sam, the Rangers had Jim Gordon & The Big Whistle, Bill Chadwick. I was really young, but I recall Jim Gordon was excellent, a real pro's pro who also did the radio for the NY Giants. I remember Gordon way more for his Giants work, but again he was just really good at whatever he did. Really unheralded, which is a shame. Chadwick I don't remember as vividly, but I do remember he was entertaining.

I became a teenager when Sam took over for good & he's been the only guy since the Rangers became my favorite local team & that was the same year hockey surpassed baseball to become my favorite sport. It's been so long, we almost took him for granted. I'll miss him dearly.
