Congrats @McRanger92 on your great news!

Congrats to Sam Rosen on your great 40 year career; enjoy your retirement.

As for this shitty team, this shitshow season has finally come to a merciful end. Trade and fire anyone/anything that moves. This organization is not on a path to winning a Stanley Cup in the near future. A tweak or 2 won't be enough; it'd just be rearranging the furniture; a band-aid, a continuum of mediocrity/no where land. I wouldn't let this organization run a hot dog stand. They need to get on a path to winning a Cup. This organization, as currently constituted, isn't getting there. They need a franchise exorcism and culture change.

Also, bleep Panarin and this organization. (Editor's note; this last line on Panarin won't be a pernament statement in my future posts, but will be in my thoughts. I won't guarantee the same for the organization part.)

Even though tampa had nothing to play for and probably wasn't going full gas or anything, the Rangers at least played a pretty good game and didn't look lost all over the ice constantly, and Igor looked calm and locked in.

That is ultimately the frustrating thing about this season, they could never just play like that consistently. They'd do it for a few games and then go back to falling apart. Drives me crazy

Wish I'd seen more out of Perreault but he's a guy who needs the puck and playing with Panarin isn't a good way to get the puck a lot. Seemed like he was trying to go to where he thought he should be going but his teammates weren't interested in what he was doing.

Somewhat a learning curve of how pace and space work at the NHL but also stylistically that doesn't seem like a great line for him . That said, i didn't expect much from him in these few games, and another summer and training camp I think will help him a ton

Part of me wishes Robertson is something...the "new Lindgren" that doesn't suck. He seems smooth out there and has good size, didn't try to do too much, but I don't know how that looked in the actual stats or if he did enough to make a case for the team to give him a real shot next year

I can see them giving Robertson a chance provided (a) he's not on the first pair and (b) he remains healthy.

So, I go even further back. I believe that when I first became a hardcore fan in the early 1960s, Winn Elliot called the rare television game. What I do recall was that there was a time the Ranger broadcaster was ill, and they had to import an announcer from Canada for a few months. Norm Jarry reminded me so much of Foster Hewitt, the legendary Toronto broadcaster whom I listened to, when atmospheric conditions were right, on the radio. I believe Jarry went on to become the mayor of his town in Quebec. During the Francis era, the main TV guy was Tim Ryan. Marv Albert did most of the radio broadcasts; at the start, believe it or not, only the last 10 minutes of periods 1 and 2 were aired, plus all of period three.
When MSG and cable got going, Jim Gordon and Bill "the Big Whistle" Chadwick (he was a HOF referee) did the games. Gordon was a first-rate play-by-play guy. Chadwick could be outrageous in his opinions but is most famous for continually saying "shot the puck, Barry," referring to the Ranger D Barry Beck.
Sam, of course, is the best.
My favorite Chadwick line was when he said a player "couldn't hit the ocean from a battleship"!!!!

Sam Rosen provided several of the best moments of my life. Rangers hockey was my vice for a long time, and hearing the old jazz MSG intro and his voice always gave me a sense of calm and enjoyment. I will truly miss him, as I miss JD, Al Trautwig, Bob Page, and Red Light Messina. He's been part of our lives for such a long time. A class act through and through.
I seriously miss Howie Rose's play-by-play

i keep thinking about the game last night. what a great celebration of Sams career that was. that erased a lot of the bad taste of this season for me. losing in the first round is almost as bad as missing the playoffs anyway.
40 years of being the play by play man and the Rangers won 4-0. Hollywood couldn't write that script.

Sam in his prime was the best...and I still considered him the best even in more recent seasons. More recently, some people would mock him for misidentifying a player, but in his prime he was the best, in no small part, because he knew the opposing players' names/numbers as well as the home team's and that isn't that common with local TV broadcasters. We really had it good as Rangers fans.

Some memories of Sam:

I remember meeting some Ranger fans from a Ranger board years ago in OTT for a Ranger game and as we were walking to the hotel we ran into Sam on the street. He stopped and was gracious. Asked where we were all from and chatted with us for about 10-15 minutes. Then to my surprise, they actually showed us on the TV broadcast of the game - there were 8 of us in a row in Ranger jerseys and Sam gave us a shout out and talked about (us) Rangers fans that he met earlier in the day, that came to the game from all different cities to root the team on. Awesome moment.

A couple of funny stories from when Sam was doing Games with Espo. At the time, the Rangers would sell tickets for fans to see an away PO game at the Felt Forum, which is now The Theater at MSG. They would simply broadcast the live TV feed from the broadcast on a big screen. During the commercials, the screen would go blank and they would leave the live microphones on and you could hear what was said during the breaks. During one break, Espo told Sam to ask him about his first goal, something no player ever forgets. When they came back live, Sam asks Espo about his first goal and Espo says something to the effect of "Why would you think I'd remember something like that? That was a million years ago," And then Espo cracked up big time.

During another break, Espo left the booth and Sam spilled a glass of water and it was on him and the floor, Sam must have been talking to someone else in the booth and he says, in a bad French accent, "I have to clean zeez up quickly or Phil will think I made zee pee pee." Silly stuff but it was funny.

Best of luck to Sam in all his future endeavors!

PS - Fire Drury!

I got some great news in my personal life yesterday, almost simultaneously with this season ending, and it really feels like this shitstain of a season was just a humiliation ritual to get to this point. I believe in such things.

Thank you Sam Rosen, Thank you Chris Kreider. The end of an era for fans of a certain age like myself. It's fitting to me that they go out together. When I look back, Ill only remember the good times. LGR.
We all got great news: Rangers season ended and no animals were harmed.

Was that potential podcast with Sam/JD actually serious? Or was that a funny haha "I'm retiring and it's funny to quip about still 'working' with an old friend" thing?
