I would call it a measure of opportunity, more than a measure of success. I'm not even saying that we should be happy with that outcome, but FWIW (not much to most) they have given themselves a reasonable opportunity to compete for the 'Cup for a significant amount of years post 2nd lockout.

Of course the effects of that on long-term success and team building are highly debatable. What kind of better opportunities did those opportunities cost them? :dunno:

Isn't it kind of an arbitrary place to stop the table though? Why wouldn't you extend it to the Conference Finals, SCF and Stanley Cups?

Because as you extend the table, the Rangers fall further and further down the list.

Here's a weighted measure:
Stanley Cup = 5 points
SCF appearance = 4 points
CF appearance = 3 points
First round win = 2 points
Playoff appearance = 1 point

I definitely prefer the weighted approach. Thanks 31.

Since the lockout the team has been run pretty well. The only really bad move was Redden. Drury and Gomez didn't live up to their contracts but they were available, the Rangers had money to burn, and a need at center. The only other move I really dislike is McIlrath over Fowler, really stupid imo.

You can criticize him for not adding the depth needed last year but I wouldn't call the guy incompetent because of it.

How's this for math...

74 years + 1 Cup = pathetic

Dolan + Sather = don't have a clue how to run a hockey club

St. Louis - Callahan - 1st round pick - another potential 1st round pick + no Stanley Cup = pathetic

Do less.

Can confirm this is not math.

Can confirm my information is far more relevant. Can comfirm that sports are played on a surface and not in your calculator. Can confirm the Rangers are lead by people who are out of touch with reality and continue to take wild dilusional shots in the dark at Stanley Cups with far inferior rosters than that of their competition.

You can spin the coolaid any way you want, the plain and simple facts are: we are not on the same level as the true contenders of the league, we sacrificed a lot of our future for Nash and St. Louis and will have nothing to show for it. Dolan is a dispicable wretch of a human being. Sather is a demented old fart.

Feel free to attempt to lay upon us some stats about how the Rangers get to the playoffs and continualy fail to do anything beyond that, all you are doing is strengthening your detractors stance.

This team is mired in mediocrity.

Its "leaders" are disinterested. Its run like a country club with zero accountability. They lack strength at key positions. And there is no light and no end to this tunnel unless Dolan croaks before most of us do.

I'm sure you'll excuse me if I don't consider the record of the 1940-2005 Rangers as relevant to the chances of the 2013-14 team.

OK then consider they are one point away from playing golf, and unless they sack up and play like they give half-a-****, thats where they will be in April. Playing golf.

You can't just arbitrarily lop off 65 years of the franchises existence to make your point. All of those years are relevant to the current team. Even if most of the player, coaches and front office people are dead.

This window is going to slam shut. It wont be gradual.

Montreal ruined their franchise because they got trade happy for stars. They traded Chelios for an aging Savard. They traded both Leclair and Desjardins for Recchi. They traded Muller for Turgeon. Skrudland for Leeman. Lemieux for Sylvain Turgeon. That one Cup in 1993 pretty much killed any hope for another.

Rangers are in the same boat since 1994. The Verbeek trade. Kurri. Robitaille. Bure. Lindros. Jagr. Naslund. How many of those guys lasted more than two or three years?

Why couldn't we make the Seguin trade? That kid will be an all star for over a decade.

So sick and tired of this failed strategy. Stop acquiring these soft perimeter players. Just stop it.

James Neal for Goligoski
Seguin for Eriksson
Staal for Brandon Sutter
JVR for Schenn

Why isnt Sather acquiring those guys? I mean, is he even inquiring? Is he hated so much that most GMs refuse to do business with him?

Sad. Really sad.

Can I include the Yankees as well?
