Sam Bennett: Contract Negotiations

Friedman has said Zito offered Benny the Verhaeghe contract - take it or leave it.
That seems fair enough to me - 7m for 8 years with NMC for first five years. He'd need to get 8m per year elsewhere to match that, even without factoring in taxes.

I'm sure they'll be teams out there willing to offer him more given the current market but I'm not sure how much of the ridiculous 10m out there is his agent playing hardball in the media. I love Benny and think he's a critical part of our team, but 9/10m is insane.

I don't think that maths is correct. Especially taking into consideration the amount of away games a player has.

Another variable is the signing bonus. If he given max signing bonus (ratio) at the start of each season here but not NY, then the away game $ take away would be greater.

Assuming that Toronto/NY/FL all would give him the biggest % of signing bonus allowed and then just min salary it just comes down to the state tax rate when he gets that signing bonus-assuming he also takes up primary residence at the state/country he will play with.

Carter gets 6mil upfront every offseason for the new year, then 1mil spread out over 82 games.
So, only 39(2 tampa games) games and ~500k, simplistic terms, would be taxed based off States with different tax rates. And I'm curious about tax escalators if it's a lower amount in that state if it's a ratio off at 500k instead of 3.5mil.

It's nice to see Vinny be willing to give up 8+ figures at the start of the offseason to guys like Barkov, Chucky, Swaggy. Seth Jones, Forsling etc...

Away games are only taken into account on actual yearly salary. They get around that by using yearly bonuses. They could also use deferred money, there are many different options to maximize the earnings.

Yes, I know. I work in Finance. :)

I agree, no way you pay him that, even though he'd be sorely missed.

It's pretty simple. If Toronto offers $10M, subtract 10% for taxes, 10% for the extra year and 10% for the environment (winning, anonymity, weather, hotties, etc.) and you arrive at around $7M AAV, maybe give $7.5M because he's a badass. Everyone making this way more complicated than it needs to be

Bennett said he had upcoming news about Benny’s Buddies in his post-game interview on rescue dog day. That means he’s staying right? He certainly couldn’t be moving his charity to another city. I’m not even sure they have dogs in Toronto maybe it’s all moose or something
It’s probably related to Stanley Pups lol
