The hate for Bennett is all the more reason Zito has to re-sign him.
Kevin doesn't like Sam.
What do you have to say to Kevin Kurz?

Sharks have nothing better to do with another loser season than complain about Sam Bennett throwing checks in a game in December.

Same as that Pittsburgh player who cried to the Athletic (I think?) last season that some Panthers were actually throwing the body in November, lmao

I have a question for y’all

I love Sam Bennett. He’s a massive part of this team and our identity. With that said, is there any concern that his style of play may not age well? He’s a very physical player, and that tends to not lend itself well to a player as they age. I have a similar concern with Tkachuk as well if I’m being honest, but he’s already locked up and is younger so it should hopefully work out.

I want to resign Bennett, but you run the risk of a long-term high AAV contract becoming an albatross if he isn’t effective in his current role anymore. I wonder if that’s part of the holdup too.

The benefits outweigh the risk in my opinion, as Bennett helps keeps us as a cup contender for the foreseeable future. But I do wonder if that could be influencing contract discussions. What do you guys think

Tkatchuk is not as physical as he was during his first year here, and it's not even close. We might never see 2022-2023 Tkatchuk again. But he proved he still can be very effective even if he's less physical. So I'm not really worried.

As for Bennett, I don't know. Like you said, maybe he will not age well. He might fall off a cliff at 32-33. But I think it would be worth it if he can give us another 4-5 years of great hockey and help to win another cup, or at least making long runs in the playoffs.

This is where I am, I think we’ll get 5 good years from Benny and I’m okay to pay him for 7 years for that.

I'm completely ok with some of our core slowing down in 3-5 years and regressing. Want to keep this group together. And it's not like our prospect pool is a year away from replacing anyone major in the top 6.

Bennett could break down, or become "wiser" as he ages and while still play with some aggression, doesn't play like a wrecking ball 24/7. His puck entry skills are underrated.
I'd assume Zito will hand out a 8 year deal to lower the cap hit. The 8 vs 7 is an underrated benefit for teams with UFAs on the roster.
IMO they will figure out a solution unless Bennett simply wants to end his career elsewhere. I don't think $ will be the driving factor, especially with what Florida offers.

Think the main thing with the core is hoping no major injury occurs like an ACL/MCL/ PCL, major concussion, Achilles, etc that can cause some lingering effects. Could happen any time they step on the ice.

It will be for Bennett. We shall see if Zito offers an amount to entice Bennett to stay.

Guess we'll see. I definitely think he won't take a sweetheart deal like Forsling, but with a 8 year term, don't know if he'll be bouncing over a 1mil AAV difference to leave here for the highest offer for example.

Say Florida offers him 6.5mil x 8 = 52 mil.
another team would have to offer 7.45mil to come at the same overall pay, ignoring any tax differences.

Or if Zito offered 7.5, the other offer would have to be 8.6mil etc..

curious to see if some agents are holding out for a good idea of the 25 cap number before telling their player to sign any offers.
