Every 17 year old can use come bulk but he's not small. Already a decent frame on him. Another offseason should get him to 6' 1" and 190ish. Already one of the better two way forwards in the league. Plenty fast. Not everyone needs to be McDavid quick.
You asked and I delivered. Could say the exact same thing about how wright was his draft year. He’s wasn’t as good offensively though and especially scoring goals. Still took him 2 years to make the NHL. Saying Misa needs 1 more year isn’t unreasonable. He is not a Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid or Connor Bedard. Even Tavares needed some more time.

He should learn from Shane’s mistakes and make the most of the opportunity. Again. The NHL team decides what is happening though next year. Michael and certainly not Dave Drinkill.

Yes I agree he could use more development. Nothing you brought up though is likely to hold him back from making the NHL next year.

After seeing what Saginaw did to Oshawa and have done to all the other top teams in the league. I do think selling would be a mistake. Your team knows how to win, can beat the top teams and has a great nucleus of various aged players. Your core is still in tact from last year. You have all the right ingredients

He’s not making the show next year. needs another year.

Not even sure if martone does and he has the size for it.

Hagens is definitely making it though and a guy like Roger McQueen MAY make it because of his size but I think he would be better off staying healthy and working on his game for 1 more year.

Schaefer obviously isn’t playing next year but that’s not to say he can’t be the best one of them all.

Schaefer is elite.
Misa is better than Martone right now imo, at least improving at a more rapid rate. I think Martin is also improving at a more rapid rate.

Is there a clause that states an OHL drafted player must sign an NHL ELC? The reason being asked follows. Boston College's Ryan Leonard and Gabe Perreault both played on the USNTDP for the 21022-2023 season. Both were taken in the first round of the NHL 2023 draft, 8th and 23rd, by the Caps and Rangers. Both are playing at BC this season. I would assume that an ELC was not signed by either.

The Spirit have drafted both US and Canadian players in the past who did not report, but if they wanted later to play OHL hockey, Saginaw still owned their rights. How does this differ for Misa, what rule is in place that he can not be drafted by an NHL team and not sign.

Tavares was a late birth. Wright scored 40 goals as a U16, followed by a missed a season. For that reason, he needed more time.
I think Martone is a lot closer to Musty than Misa and Schaefer. The two ‘07 born could benefit from a year in NCAA, but signing an elc is insurance against injury.

The player can not sign, play out all his years of owned rights in NCAA, then be a FA about 6 months later I believe.
But signing an elc is the safe thing to do; losing an eye to an errant stick is a possibility.

There is no requirement for NHL teams to sign any player to an elc . There is a window on how long they can hold their rights before they become a free agent if not signed.

They don’t HAVE to sign. It’s just typically what both parties want. The NHL team gets the players into their system and under their control til 27. Kids get their signing bonus and a chance to make the show out of the gate. GM’s would 100% rather get these kids signed than have them go back to the NCAA without a contract because every year they don’t sign, they get a little closer to losing that prospect all together. Misa would be drafted out of the CHL. He would have 2 seasons to FA. I would be very surprised if the team that take him wants to take that gamble.

Oh I can understand the financial ramifications of signing, so what do the BC players do to prevent such a possibility? to play out his three years and sign with whover he wants is indeed a risk.

Players have been known to not sign holding out for free agency. A kid from the Rangers did it, I forgot his name but he refused to sign with Florida I believe?

Bu's Celebrini as well as BC's Smith both vowed the were returning for their soph. season...guess what, both signed NHL contracts. So the present system takes care of itself.

Dirty brings up a point with regard players not signing that are injured, and the possibility of career ending or drastically altering their future hockey careers. I would asssume huge policies are carried by player agents to protect them.

NCAA insider Bmgrundy on X/Twitter said Boston Colleges reported offer to Misa is 1.4 MILLION.

If that is true. I’m not sure how Misa stays in the OHL lol that would be a massive mistake not taking that. And it can work because he’s been living in the US for the past 3 years.

There is no account with that name. Saginaw is not trading him. If Misa wants to leave next year, attend classes instead of getting a signing bonus and ELC he's welcome to, it's a free country.

People need to vet sources better.
Just saw it off a post on Instagram and looked it up and yeah guy is right lol it either got deleted or it’s a false source

IMG_5658.png

This is where I saw this. But if you search up Bmgrundy on X there is no account by the name of that.

So either guy who made post screwed it up or it’s BS

All this kerfuffle about Misa where he's going, where he wants to go ( all unknown to us ) leads me to this conclusion. Move him!!!
I don't want to hear that Saginaw wants to hold on to him so that the Spirit are announced if he is drafted #1.

Lest I forget, Connor McDavid and Dylan Strome were the first and third picks in the 2015 NHL draft. What has that done for the Otters, now going on ten years???

I think it is only fair to hear where Misa would like to play out the string, so to speak. Oblige him within reason as best the Spirit can, but if the consensus is this is his last season of OHL hockey, get someting rather than nothing. But all will say we won't get anything for him so keep him... well... poor planning...the cupboard is bare.

Misa isn’t going #1 anyways. Hagens, Schaefer are ahead of him now. Could argue martone as well if some team would prefer a winger opposed to a centre.

Misa #2C in this draft, Hagens #1C, Schaefer #1D and probably best d in years, Martone comparisons to Matt Tkachuk and #1 winger in the class. Even if he went above Martone he definitely isn’t going above the other 2. A team like Chicago, San Jose, Anaheim, Montreal, Pittsburgh all probably pick a D first. And one of those teams likely ends up with #1 or #2

Would be a big mistake holding onto him after winning the mem cup only for him to leave next year just so STH don’t break down and cry after winning the Mem cup and not seeing MM for another 34 games. He is not a Crosby, mcdavid or Bedard level talent. Reality is he may be back next year and if he is- why go back to the league you already dominated, leading me to believe the NCAA would be better suited of a guy with his skill set.

Gms are the ones making the tough decisions and last year he was the guy bringing in all those players leading to you winning. People should be fairly confident in his abilities considering they just won the whole thing.

Regardless Saginaw is in a great spot right now- just won the men cup and have the 2 biggest assets in the league to trade if they feel the need to- they’ll be fine.

I agree that Misa might not go #1 pending the needs of the team. Schaefer D could go 1st or Martone PF but if a team wants a C then between now and June, Hagens and Misa will be battling, nobody is that much better than the other. It will be up to who fits better with the team in the future. No GM knows at this point when they will pick.
Some just go BPA and take it from there and their are always a surprise or 2.

With Laz away for awhile, will be interesting to see how we run with someone else at the helm. Seems like they've been grooming Rutledge to take over if/when Laz gets a pro deal. Don't know if will be him outright leading things during the WJC or if it'll be by committee.

Good point Kingpin, l hope we get Parekh back and the long awaited Chernyshov will turn some heads when he is in the lineup. Misa with him and Epperson will be fun to watch.
But it’s time to see what is going to be done with this year’s team are we in or out. Not much time to ponder. JMO if we do a trade say Mangone for a quality OA D and Parekh for a future 08 and another D plus picks helps us develop all the 07 + 08s with some playoff experience. Cloutier Harmer Jones Zhilkin Barnes Sienko Najim Campbell last 5 are 08. That is the future of the club. Misa would be a shame to lose without a pick but trading Parekh makes up for it. Misa still can return next year l don’t see it but this season isn’t over yet.
