I hope it happens and I hope Montreal passes them too. The negativity and toxicity in this fanbase doesn't deserve a winner.

When they won 3 in a row, many were praising this team. Any setback or 2 close losses in a row and the fanbase turns on them.
Please tell us why people shouldn't be negative about what is literally the least successful era a pro hockey team has ever endured that shows zero signs of ending? Honestly this post really angers me because the entire region and WNY diaspora desperately wants to be given a reason to get behind this team and just keep getting burned.

I'm glad it angered you. While it's been 13 seasons since they have made the playoffs, I also don't fault the current roster for all of it.

This core really only been together for 3 seasons and are still young. Most aren't even 25 yet. They have shown glimpses of what they can be. Other than the Florida game, most games have 1-2 goal games. One bounce the other way and they win a few of those.

I get it fans want a winner, I do too but I'm willing to give these guys a chance. The talent is there, it still needs to time to develop.

Many were happy with most of the offseason additions and upgrading the bottom 6. Yet cause they aren't winning right away fans turn on them.

We've seen this same song and dance for years now. I will gladly eat crow if they turn it around but until they prove us otherwise ,the fans are completely justified showing their disgust at any setback. The fanbase is just tired of it all man.

We are well on our way to another lost season. This is the worst start of this current “core” if you are going back 3 seasons. The last time the Sabres started this poorly they finished with the worst record in the league.

To bring things back to the game tonight, it is obviously big and if we can get a regulation win, that is a 4 point swing in the standings against a likely WC contender. Some of the things that have killed us (poor goaltending and special teams) are absolutely correctable in-season.

  • Thompson (C) is 27
  • Cozens is 23 with 292 NHL games played (and will be 24 in a couple of months)
  • Tuch (A) is 28
  • Dahlin is 24 but has 448 NHL games played
  • Samuelsson (A) is 24 (but somehow only has 162 NHL games played across 5 seasons.)
  • Jokiharju 25 with 359 games played

These are supposed to be the team leaders and they all have plenty of NHL experience. They're the ones that are supposed to be setting examples and performing to lead the team to wins.

The team brought in veterans this offseason to supplement the roster and build out the bottom 6.

Zucker is 32, NAK is 28, Latterty is 29. Hell, Reimer is 30ish I think.

Yet this team, even with its "young" players that have multiple seasons of experience at the NHL level, continue to make the same mental mistakes over and over again. And have for the past couple of seasons.

When do they learn? How much more development time do they need?

Quinn is slumping but the team shouldn't be reliant on him, yet.

Benson is injured.

Peterka is still on pace for a 30 goal season.

The team leaders need to stop making dumb mistakes over and over again. When you have 4 or more years of NHL experience you can't hide behind being "young" anymore for mental mistakes.

Cue the "Even Ottawa has passed us in the rebuild" doom and gloom as soon as the Senators score.
I think it's a foregone conclusion that Ottawa, Detroit and NJ have already passed us in the rebuild. The real doom and gloom will be when SJ, CHI, ANA and MTL pass us.

I hope it happens and I hope Montreal passes them too. The negativity and toxicity in this fanbase doesn't deserve a winner.

You think the fanbase affects the outcome on the ice? What kind of magical thinking is that?

Huge game. This is one of the teams they need to beat in the standings if they are gonna end the playoff drought. If they don’t show up tonight this group ain’t it.

The negativity just does absolutely nothing for anyone here or the team. Terry isn't in here looking for your posts. We are all aware the team has had it's struggles over the last 14 years, we have all been sold a bill of goods by 4 GM's and Regeir saying a teardown will be painful was foreshadowing at a Nostradamus level. Most of us come here to talk hockey or football with people who share the same interests. The negativity just keeps creeping and growing and it makes posting in here unbearable. It is something we can all control and instead we double down and make it worse.

I thought they were ahead of us when it comes to entering another rebuild?
Ottawa Detroit and US are all trying to get outta the basement and none of us can actually do it lol

I’m going to watch from the start. We’ll see if I stay to the end.

I really need a pill or a treatment of some kind for this masochism.

In the last 13 years, show me where they deserve their flowers. No honestly, please show me.

Shoulda got one game in
I need to get to this level of not care. I'm still mildly annoyed, but I dont doubt I'll be there soon if they continue playing this way.

In fairness, I’m 700km from home right now for work with spotty Internet, so even if I wanted to watch them (I don’t), I can’t anyway.

EDIT: the apartment that I rented while gone has TSN, so it might be available on the Sens feed, but probably blacked out because it’s still in the “Leafs zone”.

Ignoring reality does the exact same amount of good but you don’t have to lie to yourself to do it
