Any Risto trade is assuming he's taking his $5.4 Million AAV with him. So at the very least they would have $5.4 Million to play with, probably closer to $8 Million because I don't see the RFAs taking up that much.

With just 2 yrs he can be a trade asset. He could be traded this deadline or next season for something.

Production was down regular season but had a good playoff run. How did he do vs the Blues in finals ? (I Was away from NA tv).

I'll take that over Sobotka, Hunwick, Sheary, Wilson and Scandella collecting $11.5 Million to be bad at Hockey. And the great news is we have ELC replacements for each of those players.

I have to think there are more loves coming. We have 9 NHL dmen who are waiver eligible as well as Pilut in the mix.

We also have 11 forwards under contract with pending RFAs to sign in Larsson/Erod as well as Olofsson, CJ Smith, Tage and Nylander looking to grab spots.


Regardless of how good we think any of these guys are we have more bodies than spots available.

There is only $6M in cap space with 4 RFAs to sign. 20 current contracts.

I see trades happen but they will need to lead to a net loss in roster salary against 23 man roster.

I see McCabe or Scandella (@50%) getting traded
I see Girgrndons or ERod getting traded ( Larson is possible too but less likely)

If any of the above traded it’s likely just picks or prospect/ELC contracts.

Thrn there is Risto....the above players could be included in such a deal.

Given multiple arbitration’s buffalo has they do get a second buy out window.

How about the fact that Brandon Tanev a fourth line energy player got 3.5M for 6 years. Cry me a river about 4.5 for two seasons. I loved his tempo and pace with Boston in the playoffs. We need him to stay healthy, but this is a great deal for the Sabres, IMO. He was the best UFA left that fit a need and he can play some C in certain spots.

Almost Every player over a 10 year career will have some sort of injury in which the miss 30+ games a year and another year they miss 15-20.

His happened in recent years. Last season he played 58 reg season games. The year before he got the big injury.

He’s still in his 20s. He isn’t 33.

I really like this signing. I think i would still be WAY more comfortable with JB's vision of #2C if he went out and made a hockey trade for a guy like Bonino or Wenneberg, or even Bjugstad or Tierney to a lesser extent - or brought in another skill winger (preferably shorter term..) like Hoffman or Gusev and slid Sam into #2C on a more permanent basis.

Its too bad we couldn't nail down Nyquist in FA, i think that would have been about as tailor-made as a UFA can be.

The inability of the team to keep him off the ice is.

One step closer to seeing that proverbial asshat in Rochester all year. Sobotka does literally nothing for this team that someone like Girgensons cannot, which is take defensive zone draws if Larsson is kicked out of the circle, lay a hit in the wall, make an inlet pass at a fraction of the cost. I'm good on taking a 7th for him.
