Confirmed with Link: Sabres Sign G James Reimer to 1-year, $1 million Deal; On Waivers 10/6/2024, Claimed by Anaheim

MarkusKetterer

Shoulda got one game in
We're Sabres fans. We know what happens next. UPL and Levi both get hurt Thursday night, we're forced to EBUG the 3rd period and then we have Felix Sandstrom as our starter for like a month while Michael Houser backs him up and then Rochester signs some scrub off the street while they lose every game 10-9.

It's foretold in the stars.

The return of Stefanos Lekkas, who should have been given the last minute in game 56 of the Covid season!

We get dibs I think
No, there is no change to the waiver priority order. For the first month of the season, it's reverse standings order from the previous season, after that it's the current reverse standings order at time of waivers. (Successful claims have zero influence on waiver priority, that's only a fantasy sports thing).

Teams who successfully make a claim must put him on their NHL roster, unless the original team (in this case, the Sabres) are the ONLY team to submit a claim, in which case then the Sabres could send him to the AHL. But let's say the Sabres and another team that is lower on the priority list (let's say the Bruins) both put in claims, the Sabres would be awarded the player and could not send him down without clearing waivers again (there may be a limitation on when they can do this, I'm not 100% sure on that).

Who cares. Upl and Levi won the job. One million more in salary cap if we are in a position to use at deadline

Holy crap reminds me of all the hand wringing when the scouts that did not leave their house got fired. Who cares

If you’ve seen Sandstrom play for more than 20 minutes, no they won’t.
Best players deserve spots on the roster
Levi and upl best players

Loss of Reiner sucks but Rochester still has Houser and the ability to sign another goalie

Sabres roster decisions should not be based on what is best for rochester

You're missing the point.

If one of 6K or Levi gets injured for any length of time, the incompetent Sandstrom will be on the roster and inevitably playing, the very situation we thought Reimer's acquisition was meant to avoid.

Maybe this is about liking the kid. Rstzlaf. For roc. He fared pretty well in preseason. I'm clueless but seems their aware of their move. Maybe have deal in place should two young goalies who toughened up past two years not handle some contact this year . Maybe their idiots. But Upl proved w levi the three goalie shit messed them up. Ruff must need the competition here without loss continuity , more than the insurance.

Has an edge of the knife decision we may or may not regret.

Has the feel of 3 longer timed pass plays w risk of self timeout and or , safety from critics for exactly similar results running the gut w quick t out , 3 . Easy speculation and hindsight w loss of goalie and game .

Maybe both decisions bare fruit in the long run. Maybe not. Maybe wind and ice.

By my rough math:
  • Last year 6 teams didn't use their organizational third goalie.
  • On 13 teams, the organizational 3rd started 5 or less games.

This doesn't even count organizations that rolled with a 3 goalie rotation on purpose (Carolina, Calgary, Toronto).

We no longer employ a half retired or semi blind goalie, I think the days of rotating through the organization's 3rd or 4th goalie isn't a situation we should be planning for anymore. FFS, both of our goalies are young, if one gets hurt the other can carry the load for a while. We've seen both UPL and Levi play in B2B situations and respond fine.

If both goalies get hurt long term then pray to the hockey gods we can unearth a tempory hot streak a la Hamburglar, Alex Lyon, or Pheonix Copley that can save our asses. I sure as hell wasn't banking on Reimer leading us to the promise land if everyone else broke down.

Now Rochester on the other hand, I am worried about their goalie situation now.
