Friedman: Sabres preparing for An Additional Top Ten Pick

It's sounding more and more like LA is looking for a first-line winger and a middle six forward. The most pressing need for the Kings is a top LD. I believe the Kings are happy running Kopitar / Byfield next season as their top two centers.

Depending on if the bidders are picking higher than 8OA and are also not trying to include some garbage contract going the other way.

The latter is an advantage the Kings have since they have all of the cap space in the world even if they don't send a roster player the other way.

I expect Buffalo will want a young-ish roster player and a 1st for Reinhart. Wouldn't you? He's exactly what Blake says he's looking for in all respects. And his acquisition makes Vilardi very expendable especially if you expect Turcotte, Byfield, Thomas, et al to begin contributing in the next year.

19th OA in a weak draft?

a cap dump in Koskinen

and low level prospect?

for 25 yr Sam Reinhart who scores 25+ goals in his sleep?

Dont you all rush at once to accept the offer Buffallo fans!

Benson is a good prospect.
The first is what Buffalo wants right?
Koskinen is one year of a cap dump that doesn't even effect buffalo's playoff chances.

why not?

Would the Sabres walk away from:

Eichel

for

9th overall
2022 1st rnd pick unprotected (ping pong ball for Shane Wright)
Dipietro
Gadjovich
Eriksson
I don't like it, and I think the other team can get a better offer. Eriksson cap dump, Dipietro and Gadjovich are unlikely to be of huge value and this first in 2022 may well turn out to be a late first.

If you put Jack on that team they are all but certain to make the playoffs which kills the ping pong balls selling point dead right off the bat.

But did he say this year's draft???
Nolan Patrick to the Sabres... Book it.

That still doesn't explain why we should ever explore trading the #2 overall pick for Matt Dumba.

i wasnt saying you should. I mean if the D thats exposed is terrible and we protect him maybe, i was stating he was worth that in THIS draft kinda as tongue in cheek, and then was defending he was worth that amount when others balked with examples as to why.

Buffalo might want that but they also have a RFA that doesn't want to play for them anymore. They could get a young roster player but Vilardi and the 8OA is probably too much.

What if LA acquires both Reinhart and Eichel.

I think a twofer with Buffalo would be Reinhart/Risto. Lower trade cost and combined cap hits while shoring up the front and back ends at the same time.

Blake has been pretty risk averse his entire tenure and his one "risk" blew up in his face with the Kovy signing. I think that Blake won't like the cost of an Eichel trade but the injury concern really makes him shy away.

Honestly, I'd be good with something around 9 and LE for Reinhart. Sucks not drafting in the first 2 years in a row, but we need to take the next step now, not in 3 years when that pick is ready. Lots of development lost last season.

Let me rephrase that...Reinhart is going to draw a lot of interest (more than Eichel probably) and that will bid up his asking price. Expecting Buffalo to trade one of their top players who is still under team control for a draft pick that is years away from playing in the NHL is not going to work for them. I think you know that.

So the plan is to send Eichel to a team that still won't be good when they trade him.....

..... so why would such a team add him?

To be honest, I think there's more of a chance for a Reinhart - 9th OA swap than an Eichel swap.
With Horvat and Petterson as their top 2 centers, where does Reinhart fit in for Vancouver? While the value may make sense, perhaps it is Horvat, the 9OA plus a cap dump for Eichel.

You’re obviously overvaluing Reinhart if you think he gets anything near Vilardi and the 8OA.
The only thing comical here is your complete lack of understanding at just how bad of a situation this all is for Buffalo
No, no .People saying Reinhart by himself can not get 8OA, let alone Vilardi.
