Friedman: Sabres preparing for An Additional Top Ten Pick

That's fair. So basically substitute Virtanen for another third line grinder

Yeah I was trying to come up with a comparison to Brandon Sutter in 2012. Basically a younger 3rd liner that may have some perceived upside, but is like the tertiary part of the deal. Without knowledge of his sexual assault thing, Virtanen fit that, but the sexual assault thing really changes that up.

Gaudette would have been another option, but the Canucks traded him at the deadline. Maybe Juolevi works? I don't know where he'd fit on the Sabres, though.

I would have to think, it's a team with a top young player, and a high pick, if it's for Eichel.

If I were Buffalo, I can think of one team that would make me very interested to deal. That would be Anaheim. Big fan of Trevor Zegras and throw in the 3rd overall pick this draft.

I can see that and another throw in from Anaheim

There is a less than zero chance the Ducks are moving Zegras PLUS the 3rd overall in any deal.

If the 3rd OVR+ pieces not named Zegras/Drysdale isn't enough they'll be more than happy to take a pass.

If you're that smart, maybe you can tell us what the deal will actually look like.

well, it will NOT look like the Lindros deal, of 5 1st round equivalents, an Allstar G, and allstar D and a 25thOA tough tall wing with some skill

more likely something like a proven talented young Forward, an 'A' prospect and a top pick, and maybe a secondary piece

I love Zegras' game. If Sabres are going to deal Eichel, I can't think of a better Center piece coming back. If Eichel and the Sabres are no longer compatiable. This is the team and player I want to work something out with. Anaheim have the 3rd pick OA also, they have the assets to get Eichel if they want him.

Would love Reinhart in Van!

25 yrs old and guaranteed 20-25 goals a year.

Could see him reaching 30 goals playing on a Powerplay with Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson.

Assuming Reinhart is coming with an extension, I think fans are overrating draft picks to suggest it would be a top-10 pick for Reinhart straight up. Using Vancouver as an example, the deal would probably be something like Virtanen, a B level prospect (Lind, DiPietro or Gadjovich to give a few examples) and the #9 overall pick. That's pretty in line with what the Jordan Staal to Carolina trade was, and I think Staal's resume in 2012 is pretty comparable to Reinhart's resume now.

An extension attached to Reinhart is a bit more of a question mark than usual. He had a monster partial season in terms of goal scoring. More importantly, he was playing center after injuries and trades. If he replicates that production over a full campaign at that premium position, he'll be in line for a good bit more than the market should be offering at this time. A gamble on himself could be worthwhile.

I see a lot of people saying it’s a weak draft. The only weak thing about The draft is the lack of a mcdavid type. We don’t know how these kids will end up. The lack of games and scouting has made it a crapshoot. For all we know this could be like 2017 where you have a bunch of really good young players. Stop the ignorance please

To me, it really depends on where he's traded to. If it's to Vancouver, I would certainly gamble on myself for a bigger payday. If it's to one of the current contenders, however, it's a much harder decision.

I’m pretty sure zegras is off the table

I can't speak on behalf of Adams, we have no true record of his deals of this magnitude. But if I am the GM, Zegras would have to be part of the deal or it's a deal breaker. Eichel is a 24 year old elite Center. Teams are not going to get him for just a secondary prospect and the 3rd OA pick this draft. Not unless Adams is a terrible GM that didn't shop him around. Someone will come up with a better deal than that. If not, I would not move him. He's under contract for 5 more years.

In a vacuum, yeah, he is. But this isn't a vacuum and there are several circumstances here that lower his trade value.

What is the history of a player of this caliber publicly wanting out and the team just doesn't trade him? In any sport?

I don't see it. Zegras would be off the table. I would think 3rd OA pick +some other stuff would make the most sense.

Teams that are pressured into making a deal will never succeed. This is where Adams may not be the ideal GM in Buffalo. I can think of some GM's in the league that by reputation, you either play or be under the threat of sitting out a year. You cannot have agents and players running the Ward. There is always a team desperate enough, that may be not the correct word, maybe desire to add a marquee player like Eichel, on the ice and to sell your team. He's a star, he's locked into a 10M x 5 years contract. Which is pretty good when you consider players that are not as good are paid more, and when healthy Eichel is worth that and some. There will be a market for him. I actually hate trade threads because the value when emotion is part of it is usually A secondary prospect and pick is supposed to land you a player like Eichel. This is Not happening as an impartial observer. I would like to give Adams more credit than that.

Honestly if you have two players who could fetch a top ten pick in this draft you should prep for it, whether or not it’s close to happening.

Juolevi has negative value.

Reinhart for Schmidt and 9 OA - Reinhart signs extension. Schmidt levels out the $, so Canucks can address blueline
