Because there’s been a lot of reporting that that is normally the case? There are also players who have California on their list due to cost of living and taxes. Different things motivate different people.

It's annoying because like I said Calgary aside, nobody else in Canada has issues attracting and/or keeping talent.

It just doesn't seem true.

I suppose Friedman talking about how some agents were given the go ahead to take Edmonton off players’ lists indicates it has been an issue. Friedman had mentioned it, so has Lebrun and guys like Craig Custance - even that hack Seravelli talked it up last all star break.

I'd send Kopi & Doughty, but PoHO Luc thinks, "we're right there".
I love this in theory. In practice it might be tough to do. If both players only had next year remaining on their deals, I think it’s easier for Buffalo to navigate. That extra year with Doughty is tough. With that said, what kind of package would LA be looking for from Buffalo?
Connor Murphy is your guy...
I really feel like this trade should happen. What kind of return is Chicago wanting for Murphy?

The biggest move should be firing Adams.
But then the Pegula's lose their puppet.

In any case, If Buffalo wasn't on Rust's list, I would hope for something like...Malenstyn (or Greenway), Sabres 2nd + Wahlberg for Rust and O'Connor.

Sabres line-up would get some veterans around the youth and DOC is a fantastic PK player that can play all 3 forward positions.

Peterka, Thompson, Tuch
Benson, Couzens, Rust
Zucker, McLeod, Quinn
O'Connor, Krebs, Lafferty

IMO, their glaring need is a top 4-caliber RHD to pair with Power long-term. Preferably one a little more defense-oriented who's a PKer.

A lot of fans are questioning the fit of Cozens at center long-term......so maybe an upgrade there that puts Cozens on the wing. OR, using Cozens himself to upgrade the 2C position so we've got two guys who are 1C/2C types (along with Tage).
Carlo and Zacha.

Is Power that bad defensively?
He was 21 at the start of the season. He makes mistakes. Its a learning curve. Hrs very good offensively. An ideal partner us s def first D who could cover for him.

Wahlberg is near untouchable he has physical size.

Greenway us a UFA after the year.id like to keep him for reasonable cost err money.

I have little interest in Rust.

League sources say the Buffalo Sabres are among the busier teams phoning around sizing up the trade market. I asked Sabres GM Kevyn Adams about that Tuesday, and he said, “I believe in this group, but at the same time I am looking into every possible way to improve our roster.”

Said one rival team executive about the Sabres: “They’re looking to do something big if they can.”

Like a 6 for 6 trade to top the Oilers/Leafs trade of 5 for 5? Or like big, he wants to make a trade involving only big/tall players?

In what world is 32 year old Bryan Rust worth a 2nd and Wahlberg? No thanks. That is incredibly short sighted. And I would rather have both Malenstyn and Greenway over DOC.

Even if the Leafs were looking to move him (doubtful at this point), he’s not waiving his NMC
I agree it's a very farfetched idea, but I wonder if Marner would be comfortable waiving for Buffalo - he would immediately become the offensive face of the franchise, and can keep his home in Toronto due to proximity.

It's not really an issue because BUF shouldn't want him, anyway, unless he comes cheaply, and will sign a new contract for less than he is making now.

BUF will not appeal to some players because of it's geographical location and lack of size and culture(some players prefer smaller areas), but the main thing that will keep players away from there is the stench of losing that hangs around it. Players want to win, and compete. BUF has shown over the past decade + that they cannot.
