I think it'd be surprising to see Futa go to Buffalo, considering how they basically slashed their scouting departments budget to nothing, hence the decision to scout via video tapes. Seems like the results of that are showing now.
Futa's rep is built on the draft, doesn't seem like a good fit.

And (per Puck Daddy article on the hiring) what i a part of the Sabres plan:
Follow the path that the Royal warriors blazed
It’s clear that Terry Pegula and Ted Black, from the end of last season onward, don’t have an appetite for a prolonged rebuild. The plan, as voiced by Regier before his firing, is to follow the map of the Los Angeles Kings: Draft brilliantly, and then keep some of the pieces while aggressively using others to upgrade the roster. That’s how the Kings ended up with Mike Richards, Jeff Carter and a Stanley Cup. The Sabres want to follow the same path.
Awesome. It would be a pretty big blow to our scouting staff to lose Futa. Yanetti is great too, but having them both really puts us over the top and keeps those awesome picks coming.

Yep. now my only worry is his link to the Calgary GM job, which is a spot worse as it's in our division...
TG might be able to shed some light on this. TG - wasn't Futa only considering the Buffalo job because it would have been closer to home? Calgary is a long way from Toronto. I dunno, maybe if the Flames threw enough money at Futa he would consider it?
Calgary is closer to Toronto than LA is, no?

He has a proven record of success. But he also has a shelf lifeThen they should hire Terry Murray to coach. Not even being funny. I'm actually shocked that Terry Murray still hasn't found a head coaching job. He's unquestionably a flawed coach but many teams could benefit from playing the kind of disciplined, structured hockey he coaches.
