The thing here is that Patty Lafs has talked with anyone and everyone on the mgmt side of hockey so asking to talk with Futa is just in line with what he has been doing and no worries for us.

If MFNFuta wanted to be a GM he would have taken Hextal's job when he left. Futa is happy where he is for now.

I don't care if we have to pay the guy 1 dollar less than what Lombardi makes, we gotta keep him. No I'm not taking Moulson, no amout YAK will do it either.

9. The Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch confirmed the Hotstove Tonight report that Senators assistant GM Tim Murray will get an interview with Buffalo Sabres president of hockey operations Pat LaFontaine about the GM vacancy. Despite this season's struggles, there's a lot to like about Ottawa's building process. There is a method to LaFontaine's expanding interview list -- a form of industrial espionage. What he's realized is you should interview as many people as possible to get all the ideas/thoughts about philosophies you can steal. It's a common practice in sports.

I'd pay him more to be honest.

DL is vital, but Futa is nearly just as vital. He's the cog the gets the wheel turning. Without a good scouting department, you can have the greatest GM of all time and he won't be able to do anything. We continue to churn out free talent via the draft thanks to Futa. Sure, he's had some misses in the 1st round, but from rounds two thru seven, I question if any team has done better since Futa's crew started doing the job for LA.

Yes, you need a GM to turn that talent into a cup team, bu Futa starts the whole process. He could be replaced, there is other scouts who would do wonderful in leading a department, but I wouldn't even risk it. If it's just a money thing (which I doubt it would be if Futa really wanted to be a GM) then I'd pay Futa all he wanted in order to stay.

This sounds like a Ted Nolan recommendation. "Hey this Futa guy recognized my son in the 7th round, he's got an eye for talent. Do it Pat, do it.".

It would be heartbreaking to lose Futa if that is what he decides, but it would be more than well deserved if he were to take it. He really helped turn the franchise around.

Though I truthfully hoped, if Lombardi were to ever go, Futa would be his replacement.

My friends have been blowing up my phone all day asking about Futa and whether it would be a bad hire or not. I simply replied "You guys are trying to rebuild? Go check out the Kings' drafting in the past the 1st round since about 2005, that'll answer your question". That being said, leave our head scout ALONEEEE.

They need to do some research. He's as big a piece to our Cup as anyone.
