Friedman: Sabres gauging the market on Byram

Right handed top 4 defenseman that is a team leader and warrior. Is also a great PKer and solid at defending in his own zone. Also making 4.55M. Sure there are probably better fits but good luck getting them, teams generally don't give away the type of player you are looking for.
Andersson, at the very minimum, would be the best partner that Power has had. The issue with him.....as brought up......is will he re-sign in Buffalo?

Man between this and the recent report about Peterka they might be blowing it up AGAIN
Those two players are arguably closer to being part of the problem than the solution, so them leaving is not really an issue.

Same with players asking out. If/when Dahlin and Thompson ask out, that’s where the rebuild re-starts, not some mid-tier RFAs. And that may happen as soon as next summer though since I can’t see Dahlin wanting to play in Buffalo anymore if they miss one more time.

Of course. As it's been said multiple times. If he's not willing to sign an extension, there's no conversation to be had. Plenty of teams will have interest in Andersson, so they don't have to trade him there. Players like Byram/Quinn/Krebs just happen to fit Conney's M.O over the last couple years.

Joshua and what else?? Or I should say, what else and Joshua? Because surely there’s no way you’re suggesting we trade a guy thriving on our top pairing with Dahlin for a 3rd-4th liner.
He's a 3rd liner and a big time playoff performer who ends up getting 2nd line minutes in the playoffs. I proposed him and Willander, a RHD who is one of my favorite prospects and basically ready for the NHL, and Canucks fans seemed open to it.

I don't really want to trade Peterka, but that's a deal I'd do.

I wonder about a team like St. Louis. Byram seems exactly like the type of player they'd target, and outside of Broberg they do need to get younger on D.

They've got a lot of young NHL forwards, and I also wonder about Kyrou being convinced to waive his NTC.

More than you probably wish
Late 2026 first?

Just my thought process here but if the Islanders could get one of Chicago or San Jose to give us there 2026 first they got from Florida or Edmonton, we turn around and trade that for Byram. I could even slightly sweeten the pot and say the better of that pick or Colorado's 2026 first

We don't need draft picks.

Imo the Sabres should be moving Byram (or Power, if he returns the better player) for the best top six forward that he returns. Would they want Zegras? They already have a couple big boys up front so maybe a smaller playmaker would fit?
Is that a fair value trade: Byram for Zegras?
Aside from the Byram talk, I’d love for the Sabres to make a deal with Anaheim. What about Power?

Power for McTavish and Zegras, with additions to balance it out?

He had 1 good playoff and is now an overpaid bottom 6 player, no thank you

Buffalo saw Ottawas handling of the Chychrun ordeal and said, “hey, that looks like fun. Why dont we do a slightly less radical version of that?”

Andersson doesn't seem to me like a guy to chase money, guy wants to win. He also has a 6 team NTC right now and I am positive Buffalo is on there.

From a talent/on-ice perspective Buffalo and Calgary make good trade partners, but I don't see Andersson ever waiving AND then re-signing long term in Buffalo.

Considering 3 of the known teams on his list are Canadian it's probably a fairly safe bet that the other 3 are also Canadian.

That said, even if Buffalo is one of them, instead of maybe Toronto, I'm sure he would still hear them out before flat out rejecting a trade there

It will cost much more than a late 26 1st.

Way more.

Sergachev who is a tier up from Byram (but not a huge gap) returned a young NHL ready D in Moser, a B prospect in Geekie, a second and a 4th

I’d expect something like Wallinder and 15th overall type value. A late 2026 first is maybe a part of a larger package.

Not to mention, the Sabres need nhl talent, not more picks

Kyrou’s NTC hasn’t started yet. He has no protection right now.

Byram would be nice to have but not at the cost of Kyrou. The Blues biggest need is a 2C and a lot better top 4 RHD than Faulk.

Bryam is worth a late first and a plus prospect/player, some people are seriously undervaluing his worth around these parts.
