Friedman: Sabres gauging the market on Byram

No way they trade Byram for picks when they need a top 4RHD.

Its going to be a hockey trade one for one.
This makes 0% sense..... Sabres are not trading players for picks.
Buffalo has 22M in cap space for 2025-26. What's a top4 D going to cost? Let's say 6M. Also, Docker, Kozak and backup goalie cost 3M. You got 13M to sign McLeod, Peterka, Quinn. You put the risk of McLeod, Peterka and Quinn getting offersheet as McLeod and Peterka cost at least 6M each. Jack Quinn taking 1M bridge?

Agree. I know some Buffalo fans think that they're set at D (more or less), but Andy would provide them with sorely needed leadership.

Whether there would be adds by either side is open to debate. The point is that I am sure something would be accomplished.

Buffalo has picks coming out of the ying-yang and a farm team brimming with prospects. I am not so sure they would be interested in more picks, but having more defensive depth, i.e. Miromanov or Bean, might enter in to the discussion.

Perhaps a larger trade could be had as well given that they have the 9th pick overall.
no Sabre fan is happy with our D. That's why we want Byram gone. Byram and Power are both offensive D. Power is young with crazy upside and Byram is not cheap so he is the guy out. We need a top 4 defensive D back if he moves. It can be an additional trade ofc. Samuelsson is trash. Our top 4 D has one good D in it- Dahlin.

Also Byram plays with Dahlin, who makes everyone CONSIDERABLY better.

Buying out Skinner early just to not spend the cap they saved continues to be mind-numbing.

5/7/Qualifying offer. They can move Samuelsson Clifton or Lafferty to Save 4/3/2m.

Other small moves can be made around the margins, but ultimately I'd say if someone really wants Quinn and throws stupid money at him via an offersheet he'd be the guy to go, and whatever it wouldn't be the end of the world. I do think he'd be a nice reclamation project for some offensively starved team.

Flyers are a fit here, he'd be their number one D and get PP1 minutes, tracks better with their rebuild

I think Byram+9th pick for Konecny and 22nd pick can make sense here

Konecny would be a huge get for Buffalo, a team that's clearly had enough of being mediocre and willing to put everything on the line
Here you are, threatening me with a good time.

I'm not defending the penny pinching, but getting Skinner out of the lineup was addition by subtraction. If he's not scoring he's a truly useless hockey player.

I mean apparently it wasn't considering they finished worse than 23-24.

If they were gonna spend that cap it was a fine move. Problem is they bought him out in a $10M year and that eats a lot of cap in 25-26 and 26-27.

I don’t think that makes the Flyers move TK.

I think Bo had gotten a touch overrated. When he’s going, he’s a lot of fun. Physical, aggressive, toolsy and can log big minutes. But there’s a lot of inconsistency to his play and he’s not really a true #1 PP QB, even if he might be temporarily for another team.

I think he can be part of a winning team like a Montour was for Florida. But I’m not sure the sum will ever equal to all the parts you add together.

Power’s baseline is lower and you can certainly see that contract situation has a lot to do with Byram being more “available” - but at the same time I think there’s a higher level to unlock with Power…what he could be special at just kicks more. And I think that’s also partly why Byram is seemingly the guy to be had.

He’s a valuable asset and the Sabres should and need to get some kind of prime time asset back for him. But I think fans of other teams projecting him to be some #1 dynamo defenseman to lead their blueline are rating him too highly.

Leafs should be interested. But I think Sabres fans will be disappointed with his eventual return given he returned Middlestat and then hasn't exactly done anything in Buffalo
Huh? He had nearly 40 points this year while not playing on the PP. His value is definitely higher than when we acquired him.

Sharks will definitely be in on this one, we absolutely need talent in D, and Grier likes to go after the younger guys that can grow with our core.

I wouldn’t give up Eklund or anything, but maybe a deal around Ferraro, Musty and Dallas’ 1st? Buffalo gets a great leader, a defensive D who can support their offensive guys, and a prospect that, if he figures it out, brings skill and size to their top 6.

Can’t tell if that’s an overpay or an underpay, honestly.

Maybe it does maybe it doesn't but it's good value.

Some people really under rate Bryam when he is actually very good.

Flyers have an obsession and thought that they can contend; it’s why Tocchet was the hire. He wasn’t brought in to rebuild.

Look at some of the moves that the Flyers have made / are making / want to make.

There’s no way they value losing TK who is their best player overall over the value proposed. As a flyers supporter(somewhat), I don’t get their crazy obsession with thinking they are a piece or two away from contention.

Lol there isn't a single Buffalo fan who thinks they are set at D. It's by far the most urgent thing that needs to be fixed.

Apparently in his recent press conference Briere said they wouldn’t be active in free agency. I could see a trade for a young center or defenseman with the glut of wingers they have, but hopefully they just ride out next season. Tocchet was a disappointing hire but he’s probably not even as good of a coach as Tortorella, so the Flyers should be picking high next draft

I think the idea with keeping TK was to give Michkov some actual talent to play with and develop his game
Michkov was playing with some talent last year the thing is that Philly isn't even really that close overall and I'm not sure if RT can change that.
