GDT: RATS FROM SPACE IN RALEIGH

Here's my take.
Losing 2-5 sucks. I hate it. I wanted to win game 1 at home with rest. Let's get that out of the way.

I was dumbfounded before the game hearing smoke that Morrow would slot in. I thought that was Rod with some gamesmanship to stir up doubt to Florida for how to game plan. It felt like a dumbass idea at the time, and in hindsight it was even more dumbass. Morrow played 12:18 and was a -3. He directly contributed to / caused 4 goals against. I'm not saying Canes win without Morrow, but it's at least a 50/50. We had better scoring chances overall, but we just aren't going to win with Morrow spotting the other team 4.

This passes the eye test from what I saw. We had a lot more chances in close, but we couldn't capitalize. A lot of why Florida was so much more efficient was Morrow leaving his man. Bob was unbelievable. His rebound control is the best I've seen in some time. I won't blame Freddie for the goals against as much as the point shot was well screened and a couple others were perfectly placed snipes.

Even though Ghost was a bit of an asshole to sling the puck towards Marchand, Ghost made it clear you have to play him. He was fantastic at moving the puck out. He played defense hard. I do fault Ghost on their 5th goal, and clearly he was playing frustrated with the game out of hand.

The biggest positive was we have been really well coached to handle Florida's forecheck. Florida did what they did - sending one man and double teams at full speed towards the puck carrier. We were patient at times and dished the puck out to an open man. We danced around in their zone and found space. Many times we were rewarded to find the open man (a fault of any high forechecking scheme) and get a shot in close.

It's an uphill battle, but we have a good chance to win this series. It starts with giving Morrow a Dad talk and sitting him for the rest of the playoffs for Chatfield, Nikishin, and Stillman in that order. The team then needs to have the belief that it can win.
spot on. Honestly if Chatty is healthy I'm still not sure we win last night but it's MUCH more of a 3-2/2-1 "we got goalied" game than a "the best player on the ice for the Florida Panthers last night was Scott Morrow... who plays for Carolina" type reaction to the game.

He would be, but he can’t center the 2nd line. And neither can KK apparently, so…… I don’t know what they should do(other than find an actual goddamn 2nd line center that they’ve been chasing for years)
He's not doing what he needs but if Jank comes back in I think you have to move KK up with Hall and Stank if only to give them a bigger body to play around. Then decide if you want Blake or Roslovic on the wing for the 4th line.

While we're complaining, I don't like Carrier with Staal and Martinook. It's 3 guys who can create a chance with forecheck and physicality, but they've got nobody to create the chance for. With Jarvis or Stank the line looked dangerous. Now it's relying on Jordan Staal's finishing ability.
Agreed. Never understood why RBA hasn't put Blake with my two dad's...he can go hog wild creating offense for himself while they forecheck. Move Carrier to the "4th" line.

Chatfield questionable for Hurricanes in Game 2 of Eastern Final

Defenseman day to day, missed series opener against Panthers with undisclosed injury
Chatfield for 52125 injury update

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Jalen Chatfield is day to day and questionable for the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Final against the Florida Panthers at Lenovo Center on Thursday (8 p.m. ET; MAX, truTV, TNT, SN, TVAS, CBC).

The defenseman missed Carolina’s 5-2 loss in Game 1 on Tuesday because of an undisclosed injury. He last played in a 5-2 win against the Washington Capitals in Game 4 of the second round on May 12 because of an undisclosed injury.

Chatfield was on the ice with the Hurricanes’ extra skaters Wednesday after being a full paritcipant at the morning skate Tuesday, but coach Rod Brind’Amour said he still needs to be cleared to play.

“All the athletes want to play; if they’re not capable, they’re not capable,” Brind’Amour said. “I think today he is better. I would put him more day to day now, so that’s a good sign.”

I wonder if moving Carrier up makes sense, although I think Svech-Aho-Jarvis still looked dangerous in game 1.

Svech-Aho-Jarvis
Hall-Kotkaniemi-Stankoven
Martinook-Staal-Blake
Robinson-Jankowski-Carrier

I like the 4th line look to try and keep the physicality up and have some underrated scoring threat with Jankowski.

Could put Roslovic on the 2RW, move Stankoven to pair with Martinook and Staal, and have Blake take a game from the press box for some perspective as well. I am pretty sure Hall-Kotkaniemi-Roslovic worked well when tried before.

That looks way better for our forward lineup.

*Edit* I also agree with whoever said to put Nikishin on the same pairing with Orlov so they can communicate in Russian, and for Orlov to play on his off side so they make things as easy as possible for Nikishin. Since it seems Chatfield isn't gonna play next game at the very least.
