Who is our Eichel/ROR/Reinhart? Meaning, who is the guy that gets traded from a failing situation and has a chip on their shoulder to prove that they were not the reason for the failure?

I can think of Marner, Matthews, Nylander as possible candidates. When these guys go, they will have a chip on their shoulder to prove that they were not the reason why the leafs never won the big one. Why not come here and prove it in Buffalo. Realistically I think Marner is the only one we would be able to attain in a trade and even then it is far fetched.
Yes. They want to prove they can win so they come to buffalo

All 3 of those guys didn’t choose buffalo. Now we have depth but no top of the lineup. We’re bottom heavy like a baby’s diaper

Luckily I was working a 13 and missed this guess I'll be back to not caring til they get back to .500 if they ever do. Got more important things to do with my time than worry about the Sabres who seem to waste my time in the worst way possible.

ROR, Eichel, Reinhart just never had “it” in a sabres jersey. They all left and were huge reasons their teams won cups.

Even Dylan Cozens can lead the work championships in goals, plays like a fourth liner in Buffalo.

There’s something very wrong in Buffalo and it starts with Terry Pegula
WC is nothing compared to the real pressure of a NHL season and the expectation of a huge contract.
It's like a holiday for players from teams who don't make the postseason.

And what was up with Ruff’s line shuffling? Moving Zucker to the first line, droping Peterka to the 2nd line of suck with Cozens and Quinn, while stapling Kulich to the third line? Throwing off the chemistry of our two useful lines to jump start a floundering 2nd line rendered all 3 ineffective.

That was an atrocious game to watch even more so they came out completely flat after losing the day before.

I am done with Adams since the Mitts trade.
Others were smarter and already pointing the finger after the 22-23 offseason of inactivity.

Go listen to Adams on WGR yesterday. The guy couldn’t be more clueless about every topic.

It’s clear he’s just a guy that builds consensus among people he and Terry hired but doesn’t really bring much to the table himself as far as hockey knowledge.

That's what I was talking about, that while the first line is working, it shouldn't be touched, the same with the third. At least they scored a goals. Now nothing works.

Went out for a bonfire last night, so I didn't see the game. Definitely going to skip the DVR of this one.

*Others were smarter and already pointing the finger at Adams during the disaster of the 2020-21 season.

It's baffling to me that so many here believed in Adams for as long as they did, or in many cases still do.

Rasmus Dahlin comments:

Agreed.

Horrific positional sense.

Given his overall game, he is grossly overpaid.

Team Captain? Personifies a losing group.

Sad, really sad.

Desperation

We’ve had the members of our 2nd line (Benson/Cozens/Quinn) be complete no shows. Benson due to injury and Cozens/Quinn have just sucked.

Ruff know he needs to get them going to have any chance this season. So he’s desperately throwing things together in and attempt to do that.

Well of course it's all Dahlin's fault, let's run him out of town like they did with ROR, Eichel, Reinhart, Montour, Mitts and the rest and watch him thrive in another organization, and then we'll do the same with Power. Only this is a f***ing ORGANIZATION, ITS OWNER, ITS IDIOTS GMs are to blame for the fact that Rasmus Dahlin and other young players did not develop well here, this is the black hole of the NHL, this is the shame of the NHL.

Rasmus Dahlin has 6 years in the league, his coaches were Housley, Krueger and Granato, and not one of the GMs has added a good defenseman to the roster for Dahlin to learn from, Owen Power is in his third season in the league, the same can be said about him, it's just a mirror image of this idiotic franchise.

Given our record and dismal state of special teams, it’s odd that Ruff has faced very little criticism from fans. At this point we’d be ripping Granato multiple new assholes.

I remember Adam’s glee announcing Ruff as the new head coach. Gave me Botterill hiring Kreuger vibes (“I got him! I got the guy!”). As in, why should we assume an incompetent GM is capable of making the right coaching hire? I always thought the Ruff hire was more convenience and publicity stunt vs a needle moving coaching move.

Wait, but isn't Appert in charge of PP? Isn't Wilford in charge of PK? Ruff came to the team and didn't bring any of his assistants, why? It was kind of a shock to me.

Ok, but that gets into somethin about Ruff that drove me nuts in the past- dude seems to mix it up too quickly, and usually without specific aim other than “stop getting caved in.” It’s changing things hoping there’s magic right away, but there’s no real strategy there, and some dudes need time to gel. Figure out tendencies and shit. Just throws guys off even more if you aren’t given time to see the same sorts play twice with the same line- you start learning how two other dudes play, start thinking along those lines, and now you’re thrown into another new situation. Not ideal.

The coaches deserve their share of blame. But I think fans just realize the team as its currently built is the issue more so than coaching. So Adams is getting the brunt of it as are some players. I don’t know of any coach who could magically make these guys mentally tougher. They wilt under minor amounts of adversity.

Then there is the 2nd line. All young unproven players. Teams might have one player on a top 6 line like that. Maybe even two. But an entire line?

Yep. It's this.

Do a real coaching search? Or re-hire the last real NHL coach this franchise had so we can wrap the fans in a warm blanket of blissful nostalgia, while convincing them to ignore the on-ice product?

The specific aim is to get Cozens/Quinn going.

The roster is built in a way where the Tage and Cozens lines have to be the driving force of our 5v5 offense. If one of thsoe lines is a complete no show we are f***ed. We got lucky so far with the 3rd line providing some timely goals to help us get some wins/points. But thats not sustainable.

Opposing teams don’t have to worry about the Cozens line. They can focus the bulk of their efforts to shutting down Tage’s line. We essentially need Tage’s line to carry the entire top 6 offense and it leads to them trying to force things. Thats a recipe for disaster.

Dahlin is not good now, slow and drop pass always . Bad release . Sabres are also horrible holding the puck in their powerplay. Why did they trade for byram ? And why handing out big contracts because of 1 good season to cozens and these guys. They need to perform for like 3-4 season in a row to earn these contracts . Hopefully stuff Will change . They need a better system and tastics because this dont work. If they continue they Will be to far back to just be a .500 team.

They need a star like Tkachuk from senators or a very good top 6 forward outside this trading byram
