In slow motion replay, I can see him moving his foot towards the puck and hitting it with his skate, essentially like kicking a soccer ball.

He was clearly trying to get it to his stick, because you can see his stick move toward it, but the stick was tied up too well

At this point when I have the games on its more background noise and I'm doing something else. I'm not willing to pay for that level of interest. Not for this crappy of an organization.

Sorry to hear that, especially from you. I am close to that point as well. My guitar teacher invited me to join a band he is putting together and they have a standing gig on fridays and sundays, so that might be a better use of my time. First time I have been asked to be a part of a band and not just a fill in.
