Maybe the whole root cause of the whole thing is that he has a humiliation kink.
I'm not trying to overreact to one brain dead play, but do we think it's possible to build a playoff team around Tage as #1C ?
He has an elite shot and pretty good puck handling in the o-zone, but the rest of his game SUCKS.

Tage can't be the best forward on a serious SC contender. I think he can be the best forward on a team that just wants to get in though.

We can all get our jollies bashing all our players but at the end of the day realize this fact:

It's NOT one play... they did it very recently. It shows they (he) can't learn how to hockey.
And I'm not sure I agree with "good puck handling" either. Too often he overestimates his own abilities and turns t he puck over. He's not nearly as good as he thinks he is and keeps making the same mistakes over and over.
Playoff team? Maybe make the playoffs but they won't advance far. And not a serious SC contender with Tage as 1C, IMO.
Tage is as good as he thinks he is. Perhaps he underestimates everyone else. He is absolutely an offensive 1C. He is not a true #1 center though. Does too much is a common problem for the good players in Buffalo. I wouldn't read too much into that. Players would simplify if they felt like the team was good with them. They are sorely lacking that true #2C. Maybe it is Norris.

Haven't watched much this year, but I've never felt he's an all situations #1 C. I think he can be a solid, offensive dynamo #2 C, though. They need another top-6 C next year so they can essentially roll with 3 top-6Cs to compensate for the lack of a true #1C (Norris, Tage, and the new guy). Or, they need to jack up the flanks. I'm starting to think the top-6 and the top-4 need to be revamped, which we all know Adams is incapable of doing.

We really need to hit on Kulich or our future top-3 pick this year. We just lack any top-end talent in the forward ranks. To be fair, I really don't see this franchise getting their heads out of their asses for a while. Dahlin will likely want out in a year or two. Adams isn't going anywhere for a year or two and has the vision of a rhino. I'm expecting another rebuild in 2-3 years.
This core just isn't going to get it done for multiple reasons. One of those reasons is management hinders them so much. Adams will get another season, he'll fail, and Dahlin will not want to stick around for another GM who will likely suck, then it'll be another rebuild. Let's just hope Pegula gets lucky on his next GM/coaching hire.
We're on this ride for the long haul, unfortunately.

Any team that thinks Tage should be a center in general, will not be a playoff team; if after watching his game they come to that conclusion. That tells me all I need to know about the quality of intelligence overseeing the team.
He’s a top end complementary top 6 winger that plays a hot and cold game. He’s a more mobile Thomas Vanek without the passing. You can have him on the team and be successful, but he’s more than likely not the guy stirring the drink.
I would be curious to see what he can do without the pressures of being a core leadership player.
If a team is willing to give up a decent quality trade package for him, I’d listen for sure. At the same time, I’m not actively shopping him right now.

I don’t see it as a lack of resilience as much as a lack of smarts. This is a very dumb group, compared to the avg team.

Back in the day, your team would need to get a key to the locker room which was usually attached to the sawed off shaft of a broken stick. I had a peewee coach who, if you screwed the pooch would throw the key at you as you tried to return to the bench, and tell you we’re done for the game. I was waiting for Lindy to toss a key last night even if by then it was over. Smh.

I think we really need to hope Ostlund develops well. I think he's got exactly the type of skill set we need, the question is whether he can reach the ceiling we need.
