GDT: Sabres at Hockey Club, 9:00 pm EDT

Is it a top 3 embarassing moment this year for the Sabres? Top 5?

I'm not 100% sure it cracks the top 5.
I agree. Just my initial reaction was "that's so bad it will be all over the main boards!"

Then I stopped to think about it when it wasn't. The Sabres are so irrelevant that the main boards are even tired of making fun of the Sabres.

Hell I’m tired of making fun of the Sabres. It’s how I tolerated watching games.

Was doing something else and saw that the Sabres were down one, empty net, 1:13 left. Okay, let's have a look. Feed comes on just as the (first) empty-netter goes in. Think "well, that's unfortunate" and go back to something else.

Come in here to learn what actually happened. Doh! Keystone Kops of hockey.

Not just Tage Thompson faltering at key moment, but him scoring into his own net rather than just putting a softie on net to get the stoppage. Dahlin blowing the zone so early he's the first man up the ice on the first Utah goal.

I don't understand this team.
Dahlin not making the clear on the winning goal. McLeod not making the easy soft rim pass to an uncovered Power on the first goal.

The team is hurt by its youthfulness, and it sure doesn't help when its veteran leaders can't make routine plays to prevent goals.

That bad huh? .. I didn't watch the game.

Tage said he didn't know there was a penalty for whatever that's worth.

The call was made by the ref who was behind him so that does make some sense; may also explain Dahlin moving towards him. He probably was trying to tell Tage about the delayed call and Thompson played it as a regular 6v5 situation.

Also immaturity. But yeah, they don’t prioritize IQ or toughness.
I go back to what the Bruins scout told me: hockey IQ, character, and work ethic are three non-negotiables for the scouts in that organization. Even in their down years, they don't play like this. And they often have less raw talent than the Sabres.

While I agree with the sentiment, the Mitchell Miller situation is proof the organization doesn't exactly run that way.

We can’t have a competent front office because “communication” is the most important only quality a GM must have. But apparently the organizational philosophy hasn’t worked its way down to the players, yet.

I do not. It wasn't any worse than any other time this has happened, but generally an own goal on a delayed penalty is threadworthy. Just not when it is the Sabres anymore. Not sure if I am happy there is no mocking or upset.

EDIT: @BFLO took care of it

I love that Pegula was there to witness the dying minutes debacle. I don’t even know or care if he overtly grasps how utterly ridiculous the franchise has become under his stewardship. But surely it gnaws at his psyche on a sub-conscious level given his bloated ego.
