Post-Game Talk: Sabres 5 - Jets 3

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Returning from the game I would give my summary of it as:

Didn't get a big save today. Multiple times I had to look up at the score clock to believe it was that weak of an effort on the Sabres part, but opportunistic with breakdowns. Zero forecheck from the Jets but efficient enough to have wasted opportunities with transition.

Reimer plays his best hockey games in Winnipeg.

There was a sequence in the 1st where the Jets made continuous back hand passes but passed themselves out of the slot. If there an analytics for passing off from the slot, this game would rank high in reducing the danger in chances.

2nd period there was a sequence where the defense was going backwards with every transition pass.
I'm not sure Stanley's 2 assist day was reflective of his play, I wouldn't say he put a charge into this game, was fortunate to stay out of the box. The better skating defense was clearly on the other side.

I though Mc Leod was the most noticeable player for Buffalo, Ehlers on the Jets side.

I'd like to see Arniel shuffle the deck more when pushing for goals.

Other than that it was a good crowd. Sunday afternoons are conducive to young and old.

Tough result, bounce back next one.

Better from Nino today after a real hard hit into the boards, Miller could of had two maybe three, Scheifele had open looks a few times, Koal played well, Nik too. Coaches see something in Apples that I just don't see. Vilardi still ice cold. Rest will help Helle atleast.

Yeah Vilardi really needs to pick it up. He has to find a way to make more of an impact when the pp isn't going.

I wonder if Lowry came back too quickly from his injury. He hasn't been that good since.

He did his patented move in front of the net on the last pp and missed by a little, he is a streaky player on a down turn atm so if he starts his heating up just before the playoffs then the pp and top line will benefit making the Jets a tough team to handle especially if the other lines do their part

Of all the teams in the West that are currently in the playoffs, what team has the worst record over the last 10 games? You get one guess and I'll give you a hint...they reside in Manitoba.

And since the All-Star break for the Central teams

Wpg 9-4-1 ( last 10 - 6-4-0 )
Dal 9-3-2 ( last 10 - 6-2-2 )
Col 10-3-1 ( last 10 - 8-1-1 )
Min 7-6-1 ( last 10 - 6-3-1 )
Stl 11-2-2 ( last 10 - 7-2-1 )

I don't care who's in our net. I don't care who's in the other net. This is a results business, and the results / record might still suggest they are one of the best in the league... but the way they are getting those results, doesn't..

The b2b against the Southeast division rivals Caps? That "few years back?"

If you can't take another collapse, but you fully expect one, you really shouldn't be following the team. I highly recommend stepping out for a while.
I'm not even sure if the equipment managers were around for those losses lol... but somehow it will happen again to a completely different group of players?
Tonight vs Buffalo

Scheifele - played 21:12 on 20 shifts
Conner - played 20:23 on 22 shifts
Villardi - plsyed 16:02 on 17 shifts (he missed some time in the first)

Last game against Edmonton
Scheifele - played 23:54 on 22 shifts
Conner - played 23:43 on 22 shifts
Villardi - played 21:48 on 21 shifts
You're including PPs, where it's not uncommon for a unit to stay out if they have possession for up to 90 seconds or longer

At 5v5 today:
Schief 15:16 on 18 shifts
Connor 13:28 on 17 shifts
Vilardi 10:09 on 14 shifts

why would you include powerplay time? of course it's going to increase the average time...

What is the record of the Jets playing those teams after the all star game.
Hint they are undefeated … Jets are 2-0 beating the Stars and Blues.
Stars vs Wild tomorrow so somebody is losing.

anyone also love vilardi getting slew footed right in front of the ref before the score on the empty net?
The breakaway goal also shouldn't have counted as Schiefele was slid into and knocked over which led to the play.

I'm so ready for the regular season to be over.

demelo was also picked before the 1st goal which is pretty much what they called appleton for... just one of those games where nothing went out way

i only caught the first 2 but the Jets were dominating play. i still really think the team could've benefited from a middle-6F acquisition/upgrade at the TDL. i think everyone is also over the regular season at this point with such a far lead in the west.
