Post-Game Talk: Sabres 5 - Jets 3

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

this was such a hard night for comrie.... it's a miracle that he only allowed 4 goals with all those dangerous attempts...

I don't think the team completely collapsed in front of him (if you're referring to the game as a whole). They weren't as good as they can be, but they weren't dogshit either

As for the goals that got past Comrie... I'd put them in the "could have stopped them" category but definitely not the "should have stopped them" category. The loss isn't on him, that's for sure
This. First and second goals definitely “stoppable”. Third and fourth were bad breakdowns in front of him.

Difference was ultimately Reimer who turns into the second coming of Patrick Roy vs the Jets.

My only concern is that when things go bad, which they rarely have this year, the coaches only "answer" is more 81-55-13. More, more more. Even when they play bad they can't help themselves. Why not break them up for a period or even a few shifts? Why not get Villardi off that line for a bit? He has been not good for quite some time now. Why let them stay for a 1:35 of every pp? Why let them average more than a minute a shift? Why not hold them even a little accountable?

Or just give them all the night off and let them rest.
It should be rotating rests for all of them for the rest of the regular season.
Let some round guys in who want to prove themselves and need the experience.

I feared this would happen. Remember the b2b vs the caps that crushed their spirits a few years back. Don't look now but they got the Caps next.
I do not know if I can take another collapse but the expected collapse percentage is growing.
I was going to bring this up, and it was more than a decade ago. I remember this like it was yesterday - what a shitty reminder. Here's hoping we play a bit better on Tuesday.

and going back there past 10 games they have like 3 games closer to 1 minute and 7 games closer to 50 seconds, so idk why you keep posting about there shift length being close to a minutes, like some games they are going to get longer shifts because they are down and need offense

Not going to comment directly on the loss - except to say the boys really appeared over-confident and lacadaisical until such time as their general pickup in play later in the 3rd after falling behind twice by 2 goals. A somewhat pedestrian effort overall, I thought.

But boy, is there a player going through a cold spell more than Lowry for the last little while? He appears to be" working hard" but not effectively. He appears to make bad reads and decisions positionally, and just plain struggles to generate any scoring chances for himself or his linemates. His willingness to maintain a high level of physicality (critical to his game) appears to have receeded . The Jets really need him to pick up his play if the third line is to regain their stature as a dominant line in the league.

Tonight vs Buffalo

Scheifele - played 21:12 on 20 shifts
Conner - played 20:23 on 22 shifts
Villardi - plsyed 16:02 on 17 shifts (he missed some time in the first)

Last game against Edmonton
Scheifele - played 23:54 on 22 shifts
Conner - played 23:43 on 22 shifts
Villardi - played 21:48 on 21 shifts

The b2b against the Southeast division rivals Caps? That "few years back?"

If you can't take another collapse, but you fully expect one, you really shouldn't be following the team. I highly recommend stepping out for a while.
I almost had to do a double take on that.

I know my sense of time has been warped, but the days of Kyle Wellwood and Olli Jokinen were more than just “a few years back” lol

Comrie is a backup goalie so I'm not going to get that upset wih his play today but Reimer was alot better and that was the difference in this game no doubt about it. Really nice goal from Miller, would like to see him carry the puck more often. What does Appleton bring to this team exactly ? Guy is in all alone early in the game and waits until he is behind the net basically before he shoots the puck. Then took a stupid interference penalty later on in the game. Gotta try Tanev up there with Lowry next game and sit Appleton and dress Kupari .

For some comparison and context Ehlers against Edmonton played 8 mins less than Scheif and KFC but only played 3 less shifts and they are all on the same PP.

against Edmonton played 15:45 on 19 shifts

against Buffalo played 18:58 on 19 shifts
