Keep in mind if they don't keep Nelson they probably do have $5-6M in cap space to work with to go get someone else.

The issue is we don't really have the assets.

But if they don't re-sign Nelson, as of today we're at $86.6M next year with 11F, 5D, and 2G signed.

Could for sure drop $6M on a 2C, and then $3M on the remaining 2-3 roster spots(All just depth guys).
But who? I havent been paying attention to who is/might be available this offseason.

Kadri damn near lead the Flames into the playoffs this year. Someone asked me the other day what the Avs are missing and it’s that swagger that Kadri brought. For as talented as Nate is he does not have that internal belief the same way Kadri does. He reminds me of those north side lebs lol @dahrougem2 cocky as all hell.
I mean look at my post you quoted there. I had to correct some typos because I was so pissed posting it. Kadri mistake will probably stay with me until we win another cup (if ever)

Exactly what I said last night, the Avs miss his swagger. No doubt he had his down moments at times but you cant deny the dude cared and gave it his all every single time. Could have just kept him since we all know Kadri at 2C was winning formula but Now we are out here giving up Byram, Ritchie and 1st round picks to get MittelJost and 50-year old Jost in return. Shame.

I'm sorry... Nate's accomplishments, regardlesss of his fairth in himself is light years beyond what Kadri can or could do. In 20/21 Kadri ended the playoffs on a 0.50 pts/gm pace. That put him on par with Carl Soderberg and behind Ryan Graves and Brandon Saad. In 21/22 we all know he went into God mode, but let's not pretend for a moment that was his average play.

I dont think anybody realistically expected Kadri to put 87 points in 71 games again but he is certainly capable of 60-70 points which is still good 2C production. He was great in his 1st year with the Avs too, people forget that.

Yeah, you can’t compare Nate’s accomplishments to Kadri’s, but who doesn’t think that if we kept him after the cup year and the breakout season he had, he would continue to be great for us? I have no doubt he would continue to be highly productive for us

Me either

And also with the cap going up as much as it is, $6M isn't going to get you what it used too.

I'll also suggest I think the Avs will attempt to move Wood and maybe even consider a buyout for him. But we'll see on that one.

Edit: Sam Bennett maybe? Capwages has his projected contract at $6.2M. Would be a solid 2C here I think.

If Nate had Kadris belief in himself there would be no dispute who the best player in the league would be. It be Nate. Nate for all the talent he has STILL doesnt fully believe in himself.

Sam Bennett would be a hell of a get.

He either re-signs in Florida(0% state income tax) or comes home to Toronto with all of the cap space they will have(Marner, Tavares, etc.).

Berube apparently loves Bennett.
Toronto would be CRAZY not to keep Marner but if he does become available the Avs need to be all over that. All over that. Something triggered in that kid ever since the 4 Nations.

I didn't only compare Kadri to Nate... I also compared him to Soderberg... who exactly matched him in pts/gm in 20/21. Kadri was a mixed bag. Would I have preferred to have kept him... hell yes. But do i understand the decision.... hell yes. The problem was not being decisive immediately in getting Kadri's replacement. The "patience" displayed by CMac is borderline unforgivable. But then again... I really do wonder if another HC could have done more with some of the mixes we've had over the last three years. This is where I get mixed on whether I blame CMac or Bednar more. I feel like CMac has made plenty of mistakes, but I also feel like Bednar has taken a lot of the tools he was given and threw them away in a tantrum.

Sorry, I’m not Canadian. What’s a north side leb?

Honesty, at the time I kinda understood not re-signing Naz because he was getting up there in age and wanting the term and the money, but looking at it now, it’s easy to see why it was a mistake not re-signing him having gone through so many failed attempts to fix the 2C and giving up so many assets

I said the same thing earlier. I was completely wrong. But I'm not going to re-write history and pretend I thought differently. I actually felt rather strongly about the TERM with Kadri.

I was way too worried about how it would age over 8 years and not concerned enough about the damage we could do in the first four.

Was Kadri out for any length of time this past season? Age becomes a factor as to injuries. Nuke, Drouin, Manson. So your worries were legit.

And i get that, but right now our real hope to have a good 2C in the near future might be Coyle. Don’t think we are keeping Nelson, and I’m also not sure if CMac will be willing to spend more assets to get another top 6 center. He might just say we’re going with Coyle

If Florida isn’t gonna re-sign Bennett, I’d love to have that guy on the Avs but he’ll want too much money as a UFA

Bruins fans said he wasn’t a great fit as 2C. Maybe people pushing Coyle are right. Just don’t be so sure of it.
