And i get that, but right now our real hope to have a good 2C in the near future might be Coyle. Don’t think we are keeping Nelson, and I’m also not sure if CMac will be willing to spend more assets to get another top 6 center. He might just say we’re going with Coyle
Bruins fans said he wasn’t a great fit as 2C. Maybe people pushing Coyle as an 2C are right though. Just don’t be so sure f it.

If Florida isn’t gonna re-sign Bennett, I’d love to have that guy on the Avs but he’ll want too much money as a UFA

We will complain he doesn’t generate offense on his own and isn’t putting up 70 points.

We don’t have a Matthew Tkachuk to staple to his wing.

Barkov-Reinhart
Bennett-Tkachuk

Panthers can plug and play with the other two wingers because these 4 work so well together.

Could start the season...

Landy-MacK-Nuke/Lehky
Necas-Coyle-Lehky/Nuke
Colton-Drury-LOC
Vesey-Kelly-Kivi

Would not want to end it that way at all... but for October, we've seen worse. I think CMac would still have to get a 2C... but as long as we're always in a playoff spot, I have no problems allowing Coyle to audition a bit. I've loved what I've seen of him, but small sample size, new team juice squeeze, playoff adrenaline.... he looks great, but he's dropped from 0.68 p/gp in the regular season to 0.33 p/gp thru 3 playoffs games. He'd need to raise and keep more offensive consistency... but then again he'd be playing with second lin wingers? Meh...Not ideal, but better than Jost or Newhook... and would probably work out better than Mittlestadt, but that ain't saying much either.

Landy-Bennett-Val could be a good line though

Kadri damn near lead the Flames into the playoffs this year. Someone asked me the other day what the Avs are missing and its that swagger that Kadri brought. For as talented as Nate is he does not have that internal belief the same way Kadri does. He reminds me of those north side lebs lol @dahrougem2 cocky as all hell.
I, admittedly, was one of the folks who was skeptical of whether Kadri's game would age well, but I was wrong and not signing him was a massive mistake. The worst part of it all is that the dude wanted to stay in Colorado. Fuuuuuuuuuuck!

We'll have Coyle at 2C for the entire season next year, might as well try him now.
My ideal replacement is Pinto. Plays with speed and has some undervalued skill. I think he would be more available than someone like Kadri, who I believe the ship has already sailed, or unrealistic options like Lundell.

The amount of disrespect for what this team can accomplish is off the charts here! This TEAM absolutely can find a way. I have faith even if you fair weather fans don't!
It was never about talent. Almost everyone picked Colorado as the winner of this series.

It's about effort and how much is left in the tank. Even after the Landy pump we could not match Dallas intensity and were completely dominated in the first period, which was unbelievable. The crowd was in it, but the team showed up with lackluster effort and fight compared to Dallas. If you are not pumped up to play in situation like that, when would you be?? That's my question.

Another critical point was the overtime powerplay. Go look at that on replay. Does it look they want to play? That was the shittiest powerplay I have seen. Zero want or urgency to win the game. Absolutely shambolic.

Those two were crucial points for me. What we showed in the first period and the powerplay to win it on an overtime. ZERO effort compared to Dallas. They actually want to win this. Way more than we do.

We are in my eyes way more talented team than Dallas esp. when no Heiskanen or Robertson but it seems like we don't have the legs or the will to win this series. That's my feel for this situation.

We are all talent, no show. This team should be dominating Dallas at home. Nuke type of hound hockey all night to shut them down.

Necas could be that guy for Bennett to be fair. But that would imply Bednar would separate Necas and Mack.

The more I think about it the more I can't get over how pathetic the avs came out along with the crowd on landy's return. I expected the house to be rocking with the avs hitting everything that moves but it was lukewarm...
The avs aren't that team, and never will be under Bednar. I'm not even saying that's necessarily a bad thing, just that it's the team bednar created.

Exactly what I said last night, the Avs miss his swagger. No doubt he had his down moments at times but you cant deny the dude cared and gave it his all every single time. Could have just kept him since we all know Kadri at 2C was winning formula but Now we are out here giving up Byram, Ritchie and 1st round picks to get MittelJost and 50-year old Jost in return. Shame.
We had young Jost, Mitteljost and now Oldjost.

It mirrors the lifecycle of rebuild to contender to leaving your primes and the window closing.

How poetic.

I get not wanting your star players to engage physically (too much) but those 3/4 line players this is the time they get a extra gritty(setting someone up here). Call me old school but guys like LOC, Kelly, Drury Krivi all you be hitting. Wood, Vesey and Colton when they're playing too. This would've got the crowd engaged and would get the star players going. Its literally their role. Just seems like a missed opportunity with Landys return. It was so lukewarm he might as well just made his comeback in game 2, if this was it.

Keep in mind if they don't keep Nelson they probably do have $5-6M in cap space to work with to go get someone else.

The issue is we don't really have the assets.

But if they don't re-sign Nelson, as of today we're at $86.6M next year with 11F, 5D, and 2G signed.

Could for sure drop $6M on a 2C, and then $3M on the remaining 2-3 roster spots(All just depth guys).

Or keep Lindgren, use Coyle as 2C and Drury as 3C.

Yeah, outside of Bennett signing in the offseason, which seems unlikely because he'll get a big overpayment from someone, this is the plan I've been expecting.

I'm not sure Lindgren will cost as much as people think either. He doesn't put up many points, he didn't have a great end to his tenure in NYR, and the cost to acquire him wasn't that much.

I don’t think it’s disrespect and I disagree with your characterization of fans that criticize the team as being fair weather. That they criticize the team means 1. They care (sometimes we’re a little worked up) and 2. They want to see the best possible iteration of this team.

Is this team talented enough to beat the Stars? Absolutely! And I’m sure most of us agree with that assessment. That’s why people like me are PO’d when they don’t.

I respect a lot of the posters opinions here because I find they’re generally well informed, some actually understand how to play the game and are kind enough to share that knowledge with fans like me that never played hockey, they have insight about aspects of the game that are beyond me like the cap or how LTIR works or they’re knowledgeable about other teams and players Our posters also make me think things through. I find that invaluable. IMO we are lucky to have this forum as well as the posters which inhabit it.

So if someone criticizes the team then they may not be a fair weather fan. Maybe an insufferable ASS but that wouldn’t be the first (or probably the last) time I have been called that.

I fully believe Drury has the creativity to produce and do well as the 3C.

We've seen Coyle produce at 2C levels with good top six wingers.

It just makes sense, especially with Nelson not forcing their hand.
