We'll keep that in mind next time those of us on this board have the opportunity to be involved in such a trade. Thanks for the tip.

Or in other words, we've been over this a million times from a million angles already. Thanks for stopping by.

It'll be interesting to track what happens over the next few years, but generally speaking when you have a big young center with elite potential who has a 60 point season that's considered a catastrophe, a team might want to exercise a little more patience.

It wasn't about his production being a little bit off. That wasn't one of the main reasons why he was traded.

You can come here and ask how things went if you're curious. It's best not to try and pretend like you know better than the folks who saw it go down.

I thought everyone knew he had a health issue? It's beyond that that I was referring to.

There are other things that can cause an accelerated heart rate. Doesn't necessarily mean it's a recurring health issue.

There are two kids we've traded away that I would welcome back to Columbus any day: Johansen and Voracek. That said, I LOVE having Seth Jones on the team!

Voracek I'd love any day. He'd be our top forward or close to it. I don't think you have to worry about his mindset or his commitment to winning.

The other day he cut through the Rags D like a knife through warm butter. I'd put Voracek back at 70 pts this year.

Johansen under a lot of scrutiny in Nashville. 0 goals, 4 assists, all on the power play, after 8 games and a -2.

Zero even strength points after 8 games is not what Nashville needs from their #1 center, and not what RyJo needs going into a contract year.

Been watching some Preds games here and there, and I'm starting to feel like getting Seth Jones for Johansen was the steal of the decade.

Way too early to make a call on winners or losers of that trade.

Jones is doing well, but he has a LONG way to go to meet his projected upside. The good thing is that his character has never been in question.

Johansen meanwhile has had questions about his character all along, but his skill is undeniable. If Nashville is worse now than they were a year ago, it isn't because of the Jones/Johansen trade. Rather it'd be because of Pekka Rinne and the Weber/Subban swap not working out as intended.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this is a non issue for him. I believe he is a RFA and will have a qualifying offer that starts at $6mil. And that's not close to what his agent will be looking for since he believes (and as an agent wants to get paid) that Joey is a top tier #1 center.

You are mostly correct, but I will take you at you word to correct you.

A qualifying offer must be 110% of the prior year salary. He needs a one year offer of $6.6 to retain Nashville's exclusive right to negotiate.

Thanks for this (not versed in the CBA). Thought I remembered reading something like this from earlier threads about his QO. CBJ must be happy to not have to negotiate his next contract. Always liked Joey and thought he had so much potential.

Well, there are ways around this as well. The team can elect for arbitration to retain the rights without the QO if I remember correctly.

Scored his first goal tonite on the power play.

You're welcome, Nashville.

110% is for players in the lowest salary strata. Johansen's salary puts him into the highest one, and his QO is simply a match of the salary in the final year of the expiring contract.

Section 10.2(a)(ii)(C)

if the Player's prior year's Paragraph 1 NHL Salary is equal to or greater than $1,000,000 for that League year, 100% of the prior year's Paragraph 1 NHL Salary

The big issue that Nashville may have is that a QO is a conditional one-year contract offer, which if accepted is binding. However, this would also carry him right into UFA status without a single UFA year having been bought back by Nashville.

Honestly at this point it doesn't matter what Johansen does or doesn't do. The determining factor will be his next contract. Bottom line the more $ Johansen and Overhardt push for the better the trade looks.

Thanks MB. This is what I was thinking I remembered. So if I have this correct, Nashville has to either QO him at $6mil which would make him an UFA in 2018 or sign him long term which is the contract negotiation Jarmo wanted to avoid with his super agent. Maybe Poile will have better luck with his agent. Good luck with that.

He's struggled (before tonight) no doubt. We'll see if tonight gets him going.
