Ryane Clowe

I welcome him with open arms.

Think Prust with some scoring touch. Oh, and a Prust who takes a beating around the net scoring those awfully pretty dirty goals.

I don't know why people are against this move.

Prust is speedy because of his size and speedy for a player in his role.

Clowe is cement.

Well I’ll start by saying I have been on-board with Clowe for a while now. Overall, I can’t wait to see him as a Ranger.

Some thoughts:

â€PROS†said:
-Addresses team toughness in a big way. Clowe is a top-notch fighter, hitter, and stands up for his teammates. I believe that was a huge missing element for the Rangers this year. It will build confidence and, as much as I hate the word, “swagâ€.

-Last 4 years; 45-60pt pace, roughly 20 goals. No slouch offensively. Good hands, good shot, tough to move from the front of the net.

-3rd on SJ in assists this year.

-Has an “unsustainably low shooting percentageâ€, for all the advanced stats guys out there.
â€CONS†said:
-He has scored zero goals this year. If he’s a rental, I’m not sure how much scoring punch he will directly add this year considering…

-By all accounts, he’s pretty banged up. Could have nagging issues this year, but more importantly raises some red flags for giving him a long term extension.

-Which if he is not resigned, makes a 2nd + potentially the first pick of the 3rd round a damn steep price for 15 games.

â€X-FACTORS†said:
-If the plan, as has been speculated by Bobby Mac and others, is for Clowe to ink an extension with his new team – gotta think this is another sign that Gabby is gone at the draft. More $ committed.

-Wonder if the tremendous development of three prospects this year made the staff comfortable with losing the picks. In order of surpassed expectations, Lindberg, Nieves, and Fast all made incredible strides.

if it wasnt last year or the year before this board was begging slats to trade dubi for Clowe, or screaming we need clowe.. now we get him and its like oh **** this isnt good.. this team is soft, we need grit and toughness and he has a nitch for getting big time players going as well as young guys going (logan c.) hes the perfect thing we need and will be a short term and long term solution to our softness and will pitch in offense and stand up for teammates!! Im pumped!!! and older wiser dubi, i am all for it!!

hes not a rental and will be resigned! Ask most shark fans they're upset hes gone!

He's an overpaid loser who has 0 goals on the season, this team sucks, and everyone is underperforming!

Oh... oh, we just traded for him?

He'll turn it around now!

:sarcasm:

In all honesty though, I'm excited to see what he can bring to the table. I didn't watch much of him in SJ, so I'll wait a few games to judge. I hope he's put in a position to succeed immediately.

Top 6 minutes, not with a center named Brian Boyle, and PP time, not with a center named Brian Boyle ;)

Clowes future with the NYR will simply come down to two things....

1) How healthy he is

2) How torts uses him

If 1 and 2 work out ok......he is exactly what the rangers need after losing the likes of prust, dubi and anisimov.

Call me completely crazy but the aspect of playing with Nash, Stepan, Gaborik, Richards, Callahan, Hagelin, and Zucc has me kind of excited.

With him planted in front of the net and some creativeness around him, it puts a at least temporary smile on my face.

He slumped in the beginning of the season and then wasn't playing with any of SJ's top players recently.

Sometimes this whimsical change of scenery thing works....hopefully this is one of them.

Next game, I wouldn't be surprised to see Tortorella put Clowe with Boyle and Pyatt. I really hope he tries out Clowe-Richards-Gaborik. He definitely helps with the soft aspect of the team, they're a bunch of pusses.

The Rangers have missed this all season. So we get Clowe at 3.5 - 4mil. We could of had Prust for 2.5 :(

This role is needed for Torts system to work. Everyone plays with a chip on their shoulder because of this. He is a Torts player.

He is going to fired up to play the Pitt tomorrow!

Prust signed for 4m per season didn't he?

Lets hope he brings that play and attitude to NY,if so he can be a perfect fit. I'm sure Sather will re sign him for at least 2 years. He isn't going to save the season, but I believe Sather did it for the fact that he can be a big help the next 2-3 years

I thought he got 2.5 for four years?

WOW.......your right. I know peolpe were saying prust got too much $$ from montreal, but i thought he got 4m per. $2.5m per isnt too terrible.......makes me even more angry that slats let him go.

To be fair, Prust has never hit 30 points in a season, while Clowe has hit 50 twice and 60 once.
