Speculation: Ryan Suter-Deadline Deal

A late round pick, if he tells St. Louis he wants a move, otherwise I think he just plays out the string as the wily vet there. He’s been fine for a 40 year-old but trotting out his TOI to show he’s some kind of middle pair guys is deceptive. Like in Dallas last season, the wheels were already coming off for him on St. Louis when he was pressed into too much ice time when the defense was all in the IR. Just because he can be out there a lot doesn’t mean you should want that.

Back in a limited role now, he is serviceable and cheap and a vet so probably somebody would throw a pick for him - but over the course of 82 games and the playoffs, I’d have severe concerns about having him be anything more than a veteran #6, seeing as we already saw how ineffective the grueling long season in Dallas made him just last season, and he’s even older now.

He’s been good in STL this year. I’d welcome him back at 41 next year.

With that said, I’d love to see him moved to Winnipeg or Colorado, to continue his tour of the Central division. Utah and Chicago likely make no sense, so those stops will have to wait for next year when he signs with Chicago and gets traded to Utah for their playoff depth.

Not sure where/if he goes, but how was there not a thread on the main board for him hitting 1500 games? Only 22 players (obligatory "f*** Mike Babcock") have done it, including him, 6 defenseman. I know lots of people don't like him, but great achievement.

Exactly what Colorado need. A low cost D who can play more than 13 minutes.
If Colorado D is healthy with him the D could be
Toews Makar
Girard Manson
Suter Malinski

Also you could alternate Manson and Suter to split ice time and get everyone rest

Caps, Alexeeyev for Suter?

Just doing a solid for both dmen here.

Alexeeyev needs to play. Unlikely that he comes back for another season of 7-8D. But is youngish and has untapped potential so it could easily work out with the Blues.

While Suter is a vet D and gets a chance for deeper run with the Caps.

Actually think Blues should try it. Can’t hurt to have another 1st rounder. Alexeeyev it is.

You have the answer in your own post, no one likes him so no one cares. Nashville fans don't like him, seems Wild fans have a bad taste in their mouth when it comes to him, and I seem to recall Dallas fans being happy he was getting the heck out of Dodge as well.

To the old folks home for a container of Metamucil a jar of prunes and a half used tube of Ben-gay.

Suter has been extremely solid this year for the Blues. He was pressed into playing top pairing 24+ minutes for a stretch of games due to injuries and his age started to show…otherwise he’s been a very good #5 dman who can still PK and clear to the crease with the best of them. He can fill in on a second pairing in a pinch, eat tough defensive assignments, and anchor a bottom pairing. I could see him going for at least a 3rd at the TDL.

Yeah, a 3rd is what I'm hoping for. It's something where if the Blues were in a playoff position, I'd feel comfortable paying based on how he's playing.
