Agree but who did we have that could do anything? Our 2 best fighters are Kane and Nurse right now.Yah that was disheartening. They stood up for each other at the start of the season and got into some fights and since then it’s been crickets.
Score on the PP. or at least look pissed off.Agree but who did we have that could do anything? Our 2 best fighters are Kane and Nurse right now.
I think our toughest player on the roster next game is Podzilkin?
On further analysis I have a hard time seeing what reaves did wrong. He went through the body, didn’t elevate or stick anything out, Nurse just had his head at a stupid angle and made it the principle point of contact.
Seems like bad awareness in Nurses end and Reaves was just big. Bad recipe.
Second we didn't score on that 5 minute PP I knew we were done. Bouch had himself an all timer too. Everything went wrong last night. In a way, I'm happy for Leafs fans as they'll remember this one for awhile.lolScore on the PP. or at least look pissed off.
That would hurt the leafs less than the oilers having to play 25 and 2 for 20+ mins
No it benefits the leafsIt’s a conundrum. How does the NHL take predatory hits out of the game when some plug can target an impact player and end up getting no worse than a 3-5 game suspension. Is suspending Reaves even a detriment to the Leafs?
I'd happily lose both and cannot think of a single important game that had a big fight. Canada Cup finals, Olympic finals, Stanely Cup finals, World Junior finals... never one fight and those are all timer type games. The feigned outrage by some posters on here is almost laughable.
To them, head contact resulting from a body check in an extremely fast game where things happen in micro seconds is an outrageous act but when you have a fight where the combatants are standing relatively still and are trading blows to the head with closed fists.... well thats another story ... and even cheered on and admired.
Do you know how many nhl players have suffered brain trauma as a result of hockey fights? Hundreds I suspect. Maybe even thousands over the span of time that the game of hockey has been played.
So the next time you get on your high horses and express your outrage at a body check that ends up with a hit to the head I hope you will be on here expressing the same outrage when two hockey players are squaring up to throw punches at at each others heads. ... because frankly the hypocrisy on here sometimes is astonishing.
I swear I'm the only Nurse fan left. He's been on my team for a decade and has always been a good solider. I've liked him since the World Juniors. That would hurt the leafs less than the oilers having to play 25 and 2 for 20+ mins
I feel bad for Nurse just like Reaves does.
I feel bad for you for having to cheer for Nurse
There is no such thing as legal and illegal in a hockey game. Actions are either permitted within the rules or they aren't. Fighting is against the rules.I'd happily lose both and cannot think of a single important game that had a big fight. Canada Cup finals, Olympic finals, Stanely Cup finals, World Junior finals... never one fight and those are all timer type games.
Having said that.. I will answer this question.
Hitting to the head is illegal
Getting into a hockey fight in the NHL is not illegal. It's cosnetual and both guys know they can get punched in the head and then take a nice break for 2 minutes.
To your point though, if Reaves had done the right thing and just absolutely demolished Nurse into the boards with a thunderous shoulder to shoulder check (and that was very available to him) then Nurse is probably knocked unconcisous when he hits the boards behind the net. No penalty, no outrage and it's considered fine despite the head trauma being the same.
Illegal vs legal.
Very true, but instead Reaves hit Nurse on the head and there has to be supplemental discipline. This is a clean hit it he just hits him 6 inches to the left and goes shoulder to shoulder
Apologizing doesn’t mean he’s not a plug lol.So a guy delivers a hit. Doesn’t argue about being thrown out.
Goes to the guy he hit and apologises.
And then people here have the balls to call him a plug all while they know they wouldn’t say a single word to his face.
Classic online heroes.
Like Sloan said in Coax me….its not the band I hate…
And Adam Johnson is still alive if that skate blade was six inches to the left or to the right. This is a clean hit it he just hits him 6 inches to the left and goes shoulder to shoulder
Exactly, just means he knows he f***ed up.Apologizing doesn’t mean he’s not a plug lol.

This is pretty much the exact play that gets you in highlight reels. Head down staring at the puck and then skating up without any awareness of where anyone is. A penalty is fine even though nothing illegal really happened. The only reason people are up in arms is because big hits are more uncommon.
Well, Dino Ciccarelli and Todd Bertuzzi were each found guilty of assault for their actions in a hockey game, but point taken. We understand what you mean. However, there actually is such a thing as illegal in a hockey game. There is no such thing as legal and illegal in a hockey game. Actions are either permitted within the rules or they aren't. Fighting is against the rules.
Podz definitely is not a fighter. He will fight but he's scared of doing it. He's really got to be pissed off to engage on his own willpower and I have yet to see that much at the NHL level.Agree but who did we have that could do anything? Our 2 best fighters are Kane and Nurse right now.

Well, Reeves is a plug. Your point makes no sense. Unless your definition of plug has more underlying meaning than just not very good and wouldn’t be in the league if not for fighting? So a guy delivers a hit. Doesn’t argue about being thrown out.

Horrible analogy. This was a predatory hit, Nurse had zero opportunity to consent to taking a shoulder to the head as the principle point of contact on an illegal check. The feigned outrage by some posters on here is almost laughable.

You’re defining him as a plug and that he wouldn’t be in the nhl if not for fighting…Well, Reeves is a plug. Your point makes no sense. Unless your definition of plug has more underlying meaning than just not very good and wouldn’t be in the league if not for fighting?
Agreed , I’m not celebrating this hit at all. It was so close to being a highlight reel decimation of Nurse but he just missed. It’s suspendible and I support that. Still Burse beats some onusI used to absolutely rock people when I played contact hockey…. But the rules have changed and this is a dirty hit….
Nurse is the most grossly overpaid player in the league and with low hockey IQ. Your point of him putting himself in a bad situation with his head down is valid… doesn’t change the fact that it’s an illegal hit in this day and standard.
Suspendible offence 150%. Hit his head first. Had he hit him through his chest, might have been the hit of the decade.
This was a dirty play and you never want to see anyone get hurt on the ice, especially when it’s head/brain related.
Consent to a shoulder to the head? HahahaHorrible analogy. This was a predatory hit, Nurse had zero opportunity to consent to taking a shoulder to the head as the principle point of contact on an illegal check.
A fight is consensual. Players do not have to accept the fight. Plenty leave the gloves on and/or turtle. It’s on them if they do.
I do, not being the least bit hypocritical, call for suspensions for sucker punches, because again, the aggrieved party has no chance to consent.
