Proposal: Ryan Pulock to Montreal

Not really interested in a 30 year old player that’s going to cost a 1st + more and making $6.1 m for another three years. If the Habs are going to be trading for a top RH defenceman, get a young one that will grow with the core. It will cost lots, but I would be willing to pay lots if that’s what it would take. I would honestly just prefer to see what we have in the prospects we already have before looking elsewhere. Why give up assets when we may already have such a player in the prospect pool

I believe they do have that in Reinbacher, and should be able to get a #4/5 out of Mailloux or Konyushkov but none of them are ready to play a significant role next season. Habs are a playoff team now and I think should take advantage of a window where some good players are still on ELCs. A young top 4 RD who can grow with the core is going to cost a Caufield or Slaf level piece and more and I think they have enough faith in Reinbacher to at least be a top 3 shutdown guy that they won't make a huge move like that

I would pull the trigger on that.

Pulock gets a bad rap around here because he plays tough minutes on a team that hasn't been good recently and currently has the 8th-worst offense stats-wise, so Pulock doesn't get to shine as much as he would on another team.

In a better context, Pulock would likely be much better.

Kind of like the Cam Fowler situation, though I don't think we'd see as dramatic of a "before/after" effect.

But yeah, a defenseman like Pulock would be the type of guy the Canadiens will look to acquire in the offseason.

Oh, and a center like Horvat would be a great get too. Maybe package the two and we give some more picks/prospects?

Might as well grab Sorokin and Dobson too. Just throw in a 4th silly

As a MTL fan, I think I would do this. I really like Pulock and think he could be a good partner for Hutson.
Hutson Pulock
Guhle Reinbacher
Matheson Carrier
That would improve the D core considerably and give Reinbacher a bit of Time in the AHL if he needs it.
Seems like a pretty fair offer on both sides too

Trade before the draft-

To Montreal:
Pulock

To NYI:
Joshua Roy
William Trudeau
MTL 1st (14th-17th range barring a miracle run)

Have at it
Pulock is a spot upgrade over Savard. Not the sexiest name but would have a significant impact.

I don’t love giving up a 1st round pick for him and his cap hit, but I figure that’s gotta be the price.

Have not seen much of Pulock since Trotz was the coach, but if he's anywhere near what he used to be, that's an emphatic yes from this Habs fan.

Let’s just gut the Isles of every aspect of veteran talent while we’re at it in hopes of the prospects all developing as advertised. Thats a sure fire plan if I’ve ever seen one. You think Lou would be interested in dumping Sorokin, Dobson, Romanov and Holmstrom for some more prospects and picks in this highly touted draft too?

30 years old and 7 more years at $8.5 million. If he was in the middle of that contract at 30, yes. It would be an interesting move. With 7 years left, it's a lot less appealing imo. I also think he's outside the window of age that Hughes will be looking at.

All this thread tells me is that nobody watches the Isles and the Habs would get Mike Matheson but worse in return. Noah Dobson would be 1000 times better for the Canadiens and I would voucher to add in Barzal too to make this a trade both sides can use.

Montreal isn’t giving up the pieces to get Dobson, Barzal and Pulock. It would have to involve Demidov, multiple 1sts and other non useless players for the Isles (Gallagher, Anderson and Matheson to start) with term. Plus it makes no sense for the Isles to blow it up, sell off everyone with high end skill to be stuck with Duclair, Engvall and Mayfield as the top line options with no youth.

What happened?
Miles, man, miles.

Pulock is a good player. If he was a bit quicker, he'd be a really good player. But with all those miles, he hasn't gotten any quicker. I do think that the decline in Pelech's game, which I'm sure is injury related, affects him. But I don't think Pulock's game has declined nearly as much as Pelech's.

Neither were dynamic at their best, so when both slow down... well?

You forgot the biggest issue with his game, his inability to hit the net if it was as wide as the ice rink.

Have no interest in that contract at all. Just keep going the right direction.

I think any Pulock deal should involve a good quality RHD prospect (or Carrier).

Habs blueline including both NHL and good prospects is very very young and has lots of players. There's not really room to add more, so the blueline adding a vet should probably be "veteran D for veteran D" or "young D for veteran D".

Something involving Carrier or Mailloux makes sense to me, obviously not straight up. Reinbacher would make sense, but Habs should probably hold onto him.
