Truth is they target players who come from poor backgrounds for these reasons. SKA can offer working stability for their parents and a place to live and yadayada all you have to do is sign a youth contract and promise to sign a three-year one later. Not to mention the development opportunities many KHL teams cant offer.

In North America sure lots of players come out of the CHL but if you're a talented guy do you want to risk the chance to go to a CHL team that may or may not have good development or go to the USNDTP and be guaranteed to train with the best American players and basically get a free ticket to being drafted? Or another comparable would be how Quebec/London get every single import/top prospect for a reason.

SKA target poor players? That’s the dumbest thing ive ever heard.
Apart from some outliers (like Panarin) there are no poor hockey players.

SKA targets all of the elite. Rotenberg initially envisioned their youth academy as a quasi-equivalent of the US’ NTDP.

I hate Rotenberg but I think it's going to help his development.
In fact, with such a talented player, some humble pie actually might prevent the inflated ego syndrome and build a team first attitude that will be good?

Hard to say what value there has been in the way Demidov was used this year?

I hate Rotenberg but I think it's going to help his development. Pretty sure Rotenberg is going to claim credit from Demidov's future success in the NHL.

There is definitely something to be harvested from going through adversity, and Rotenberg surely threw plenty Ivan's way. The fact that he responded and had arguably the greatest season ever as a teenager in the KHL bodes very well for him. (and us)

The kid took it, kept his eye on the prize and still shone despite of it.

CHaracter.

Can't wait until he gets here!!

Assuming a similar timeline for the VHL playoffs, what will Demidov be doing for SKA with the last 5 weeks he’ll owe them?

Wrong answers only.

The finals will run much later than that this year unfortunately. There's still 3 entire rounds left to play, so Demidov's going to be playing late into May assuming SKA makes it all the way to the finals.

Is Hockey News Hub clickbait? Because in Sport-Express, Khairullin never definitively said Gritsyuk would be allowed for sign ELC only after May 31.
dude is not a pro for sure, funny picture, posting insitive to get more subs on his channel, like stfu just do the right thing and you will get the likes

The whole SKA saga is a candy store for (social) media.......both in Russia and USA/Canada

Chaos and uncertainly = clicks and views. Win!

For me, it would have been amazing if we could have had him come over and sign with Habs. But if he's to stay in Russia, I'm happy he went to the VHL and not the MHL. He will play at a higher level than he could have if they sent him to SKA-1946.

My guess is that the negotiations with SKA were for two things: 1) be released to go the Montreal or 2) play in VHL and not MHL.

He will play against Kostenko and Sobolev as SKA-NEVA are playing Khimik starting Thursday.

I see no valid reasons to rush him. I'll be happy if he shows up at camp with an ELC for 3 years.
It's not rushing him. The valid reason(s), again, is to burn a year and add him to the playoff squad. Burning a year entails mucho cap savings, or else we'll be signing his 2nd contract right when the cap goes up the most, also after two seasons of play, instead of one, which will cost us even more on the long term.
