Now why?

Isles can put Barzal to the wing and also have brock boeser and still have 2 1b centers, Scouy is a cheapp Dobson replacement.

Maple leafs replace a super star scoring machine with a playoff winning gritty power winger, defense is greatly improved ad enough futures that the sting of losing marner to the fans in not that bad (really great return)

Canucks get a replacement for pettersson, not a super star but a bo horvat light like guy, but receive probably the best player in the deal overall marner.

Isles still don’t need Soucy (too many years left and too much money) for the 86th time and this is a lowball offer from Vancouver.
 
What's going on with Dobson? Not performing to Isles expectations? Team going into a rebuild ? Wants a trade? I really don't follow NYI . He seems like a piece you would want on your team . Or am I incorrect ?

Dobson is not performing to expectations. In prior seasons he's played close to his upside which is a top pairing offensive defensemen (he scored 70 points last year). He can drive play and is good defensively. Also a quiet/good teammate so no issues there. Plus he's a right-handed shot.

That said for whatever reason (probably part Roy's coaching and the team being crappy), he's been average/lackluster this year so that's made Isles fans down on him.

Not even sure he's on the block as one (unreliable) media outlet put out a rumor, other more notable reporters jumped on it, and now we have a bruch fire of rumors about Dobson being on the block. This in the face of the fact that the Isles President/GM runs such an airtight ship that he won't even announce his own player signings.

So I'm skeptical that Dobson is even on the block, but if he is I'm sure a big reason is that he's an RFA this offseason and probably asking for a contract that isn't justified based on his play this year.

If the Isles can resign him to a reasonable deal then they should resign him as odds are both Lou and Roy will be gone during his next contract and he will play much better. Also he's only 25 so he still has so much room to grow. Given his age, upside, and the fact he's a righty trading Dobson is something that could very much become something the Isles regret soon after.
