Maybe I’m sentimental but I think there’s a way better chance that Lindgren rebounds to his metrics from a year or two or three ago and becomes at least a solid defensive presence, than any chance that Trouba isn’t abysmal which he has been for like three years now.

Of course if that does happen they probably give Lindgren a long, unmoveable contract and I don’t particularly want that either. Is there a level he can play at where he gets like a cheap 3 year deal and can move down to the third pair and just play solid defense like he did in the past and not have to produce offense?

He was #1 in all major defensive metrics (so ahead of AF) in 2 of the previous 3 seasons before the last one (he was #2 in the season where he didn't finish #1.)

So he was legitimately good at defense. #1 is #1.

He was 6th out of 6 last year (7th out of 7 if you want to include Jones.) he didn't just dip a bit, he cratered and basically went from Marc Staal year 4 to Marc Staal right now.

I think what happens is we play good and gritty teams we get shut down and the Rangers think that's what Lindgren is.

I don't think they're doing him, the team or anyone else any favors throwing him out there with the fishbowl on.

He's bad enough when he's healthy.

The fans love him and I have a feeling coaches are no smarter than the fans on Facebook. If a defenseman hits, blocks shots, and is a warrior fans think he's great defensively. There are fans on Facebook calling me a clown because I said Fox is better than Lindgren defensively. Here's a little secret, if it wasn't for HF I'd probably be there with them. So I kind of understand it. Some players just LOOK like they're playing good defense even if they suck badly. But HF exists and I don't have my ego tied into my sport being the greatest most physical sport of all time and I don't need all my players to be tough no matter how much they suck. Toughness is good but if you can't play defense what good is it?

This play is so laughably bad. An adept puck mover doesn't even try to handle that puck on his back hand and hits zibanejad (Or Laf) in stride to get out of the zone (who ever was the D man up with Z wasn't within an ear shot of him.)

The safe play was to reverse it to Fox. Zucker's stick isn't in position to pick that pass off. Maybe the puck hits the ref, but he's got enough space to work with.

Lindgren chooses to spin his way into Zucker and get eaten. Shooting the puck at Igor would have been a better play than that because we know that it wouldn't have gone in.

He also looks way slower than usual this year.

I know Sam and Joe have rose-colored glasses on but how many times have you seen in an NHL game where multiple goals are scored from a player leaking out from a board "battle" untouched and walked to the slot for an easy goal? Miller, Lindgren, the PP goal for goal #6.

Don't care that he's a HOFer but either you trade the players or Housely has got to go. Lindgren and Miller have seriously regressed. Our dmen look absolutely lost in their own zone. We don't hold the blue line and let teams just streamroll in with speed against slow soft defenders. Its a freaking disaster.

Lindgren is on the road to journeyman plug and we play him top 4 minutes and late in the game to hold the lead. This isn't Rangerstown, this is Crazytown.

Its wild that the coach rewards his awful play by putting him on the 1st pair. I dont understand the decision making.

If Jones or Mancini made this play (let alone any of his other numerous poor plays last night), each would be stapled to the press box for weeks.

I don't mean to pick on Lindgren and knock a guy when he's down bad. The same applies to Miller.

This play wasn’t even a coaching thing, it’s an example of choosing basically the worst option.

There was another instance where he recovered the puck from behind the net and had a streaking Laf for a breakaway if he had any ability but he ended up fumbling the puck and chipping it out and even worse, the Sabres recovered, reloaded and had sustained zone time. The difference between a competent player and Lindgren there is a quality scoring chance for instead of sustained zone time against.

These plays are the norm with him and quite honestly, always have been. Even at his very best he's been a strong defensive player who had pretty drastic negative impacts on offense. The last few years it's been more magnified because the defense has taken a massive step back but it wasn't a sudden thing either, he's been trending this way for a while to the point where he's been a sub par player in this league for longer than he's been a good one.

I know a common argument for him is that you can't scratch him because he PK's.

He's sucked there too (probably a good idea to get Trouba off of it as well.)
