I really really like Lindgren. I like him more (at least so far) than Hajek. He's a competitive *******, skates well and never gives up on the play. Reminds me a little of Kasparaitis except he doesn't run around out of position looking for splashy hits nearly as much. He's worked well with Adam Fox in the past and I think that's who he belongs being paired with or at least for now. They have a chemistry. I don't think Lindgren is ever going to put up a lot of offense. He's mainly a stay at home almost always in position guy. You need some guys like that to keep your goalies happy. Even if he's not very big--he is combative. He's not the kind to stand around and let opponents crowd or knock your goaltender around. I was pleased when we traded for him.

I really don't want to throw Staal under the bus---he's been a good Rangers player but he's declined gradually since his head and eye injuries--age has something to do with it too. If we're choosing between him and Lindgren I'm choosing Lindgren every time.
Well said. It’s not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog!
Love Lindgren.

Having a good-natured laugh about how dismissive almost everyone here was of this guy last year just because he wasn't the latest or flashiest shiny new toy. But glad to see the bandwagon getting so crowded because it's well deserved. I liked him... and the idea of someone LIKE him... pretty much all along, but I don't think anyone could have seen coming what we now have, an arguably number one pairing of him and Fox with less than 30 NHL games between them. WTF!

Lindgren? More like Ryan Lundgren:

I think it's worth mentioning again just how good Lindgren has been. Love this kids game... Whoever said Sauer definitely has it right.
Yeah, I feel like we've been comparing every physical and not outright offensive minded D-man as a Sauer comp. In this case, he actually is very similar and it's a valid comparison.

I'm thinking I'd be very happy if he carved out a career similar to what Francois Beauchemin did in Anaheim.

We all liked him for his gritty tough play in the small sample size last season but how many of us had him as a top future LD guy in this organization? It's awesome to see someone like him who works his butt off and with his character doing so well.

Kid is certainly making the best of the opportunity he got, unless he starts to struggle drastically, it's going to be close to impossible to send him back down to the AHL. He's been playing extremely solid hockey.

He's better this year than he was last year...which is great for a prospect!

I admit I was wrong about him, I didn't think he quite had the puck skills or head for the game to effectively transition the puck and be a reliable player and spent too much time leaning on the "tough and reliable" tag in his own zone and then getting caught up ice pinching too much trying to play the offensive game.

I think he's improved his transition skills and he's not pressing to be an offensive defenseman all the time any more and looks good out there. Hajek has better puck skills and more upside I think but Lindgren is playing more consistently at the moment I think.

I had Lindgren pegged as a very good player in this league for many years. I just didn't think he'd get the chance to do it here.

may even protect Lindgren , Hayek, Trouba in expansion

trade deAngelo since Lundqvist and Keane looking good . Fox ineligible . Skjei would clear through
Tony D gonna get a raise so could sneak through too?

I would protect ADA, Lindgren, and Trouba (because we have to). Yes Skjei would clear. Who knows if Lundkvist or Keane would even make the top 6, let alone the top 4? We can’t jump to conclusions yet. If the expansion draft was today, I would leave Hajek unprotected. Lindgren has outplayed him in both the AHL and NHL. As of today, he’s a top 4 defenseman (maybe because of Fox but I don’t care, Lindgren-Fox need to be together for life). Hajek is barely an NHL defenseman. No wonder Trouba played better when Skjei replaced Hajek as his partner, and ADA played worse when Hajek became his partner.

He seems to play within himself. Maybe he can explain that concept to Skjei.

The expansion draft is after the 20-21 season, isn’t it? It’s so far off. So much can and will change.

I was really surprised when I found out Lindgren has only played 20 games. Feels like more for some reason. Probably a mixture of his game already being very mature and his smart defensive decision making being noticeable. Love this kid so far.

I made the comparison a while ago and while clearly they are different players, I could see where Lindgren has an effect on the starting 6 the same way as Foote had on those Avs teams. Just a steadying presence. And knows enough not to play as someone that he is not.

Hajek may have the better puck skills and the higher ceiling, but I would not be shocked if Lindgren had the longer career as a 2nd pairing D-man.

If the season was to end TODAY and the Rangers would be in the playoffs protecting a one goal lead, he would be out there with Trouba if it were up to me. I am not suddenly painting him as a top pair defenseman, but he defensive play stands out on this team.

He is also serving as a perfect compliment to Fox. If I could clone him, I would place the clone with ADA.

Lindgren has long reminded me of the type of player who would've been right at home on the blue line for those Nords/Avs teams back in the day.

He doesn't bring a lot of frills, he tends to stick to his lane, but what he does in that lane is vital. I also think he brings an element that is somewhat unique within the organization right now.

I'm not terribly surprised by how he's looked this season. I think he's followed a similar trajectory to a lot of the defenseman we've produced in recent years. When they're down in Hartford, they tend to focus on the basics --- and that doesn't necessarily lend itself to highlight videos and box score watching.
