He sounded much more open to signing than Portillo. Portillo dodged any question regarding signing with the Sabres. Johnson seemed like he was more open to It than I thought he would. Maybe he’s just a good liar

Portillo also went out and bought a Sabres themed helmet...that wasn't cheap. Not that it isn't obvious, but we just have to wait and see.

He was definitely harder to read.

For now, I'm done worrying about either pulling the Cal Petersen until they do. Evidence is continuing to show he was an isolated incident.

For sure, lightning can strike twice in the same spot but it's unlikely. Best guess, of the NCAA potential walk offs, is we'll lose one to free agency and two will sign.

And right handed catching glove goalies (Cal) can't be trusted. We should've known this.

Future LA King Ryan Johnson. Bad vibes

When he said “right now I am really just evaluating the camp, the staff. It’s a tough decision and I want to make sure I am doing it with confidence” and later says “this is an evaluation for me to kind of see how the organization is” that tells me he’s clearly not confident about a number of things in Buffalo (like the quality of coaches, development, etc) and is unsure about signing here.

I didn’t get the impression that he’s definitely gone though.

It does make me wonder what type of reputation Buffalo has and/or what type of experience he had with the previous Buffalo regime.

I think/hope Kevyn Adams is starting to change it for the better but I could see where a player wouldn’t have confidence in Buffalo and even if they believed in the new regime could be worried about how long the new regime will be around.

Ducks just signed his dad to coach/development team.... He played for Jr. Ducks and is from Irvine, CA.... Why do you guys think he would go to the Kings and not the Ducks (not that either will happen most likely) just curious?

Can't speak for everyone but..

1.) His dad worked for the kings org prior to joining the Ducks

2.) A possible trade for Quick since we needed an upgraded goalie with a short term contract.

Now with the Comrie/Anderson signings and Johnsons dad moving to the Duck org a trade with the King is less likely now.

Because his father used to work for Kings, he just now came to you. But I think he will be in Buffalo.

If Johnson talks to his peers, none of the guys he's played alongside have found much pro success. Reedy (SJS) would be his best teammate that turned pro up until now. Lafontaine would probably be the cautionary tale, as he's already received no QO. If Johnson returns to the Gophers, there's obviously a legit pro talent in Cooley though. Would he follow him to ARZ? Do the Mittelstadt brothers put in a good word about BUF as proxy? Does he go home to an ANA org where he was a Jr Duck, his dad coaches, and 2-3 teammates likely play somewhere? Idk what to make of it anymore. I just want him to sign, damnit.

His sound bites just seem canned to me. Maybe he signs here, maybe he doesn’t, but in his position I’d certainly explore free agency
If you have any sense of intuition and know people they also sound disingenuous.

LA, Anaheim, or who the Sabres would trade him to it's all semantics right now.

Kris Baker was on WGR and laid out pretty much exactly what we all think.

Says college is great and he understands trying to win a title for a storied program but the right thing for both him and the Sabres is to come out and that it’s time to come out now. Said if he was looking for the team to show they want him they’ve gone super soft drafting D in the draft for years now. Said he doesn’t think he’d need long in Rochester to make it.

Really hoping he signs. He would make a perfect top 4. Dahlin/Samuelsson/Power/Johnson. Its a great blend

I’m not even upset about losing the player if he walks…I can replace that player smartly, cheaply and easily. Teams just give up or hand away good players all the time. What upsets me is the waste of time. He’s developed and can be a contributor within the year…and instead I might have to wait two more years to get a 2nd round pick to wait five more years to see anything out of the first rounder we used years ago?

I mean they can trade him or the pick for immediate help…but still.

Concerning his dad ... isn't it just as likely a young pro hockey player would want to establish himself *away from* wherever his father happens to be working?

I'm thoroughly unconvinced that "I wanna be near dad" is a motivating factor.

Fitz said straight up that there was no way he wanted that pressure.

I think the best thing for his growth would be to be away from his father.

Being uncomfortable causes growth. The last place he should want to be, is the same spot as his dad this young in his career.

Also, wasn't his dad just with LA? What confidence is there that he will actually still be with Ana for the future?
