Value of: Ryan Donato to Edmonton?

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Donato has had a career year. He looks dangerous & fully engaged. I'd like to see him re-signed BUT if he's dealt, I'd like a late second (Dallas pick) packaged with Ryan for a first.

4pt game tonight & cheap contract.

We already have a better version named Jeff Skinner.

Pisani's big POs was his 2nd PO appearance. In his 1st PO appearance, he was 6 gp 1-0-1

Sadly, this is Skinner's 1st PO so if he's like Pisani it won't end well.

Also, Donato is also past the Pisani window as he already had 3 (unproductive) PO runs.

EDIT: Montreal does have a Dvorak in prime Pisani territory. :naughty:

The problem is, some people see the points and do not equate that to the fact he would not get the same time on ice with the. oilers.

But more over, I believe a pump and dump is currently in affect. Hawks are spoon feeding him minutes over the last 4 games where he has 3 goals and 5 minutes, playing an average of about 3 to 4 minutes a game more then usual. Against the Preds he played nearly 20 minutes. 5 minutes more than his January average, 4 minutes above his December average, 3 minutes about his November average and 7 minutes about his October average.

He is he is being put on display for a trade and they hawks are trying to move him

And some GM is going to take the bait hook line and sinker.

He wouldn't be coming to Edmonton to play in the top 6 unless depth was needed. Why not let him play on the 3rd line?

I don't think that's the right type of criticism/skepticism. After tonight, Donato's 5 on 5 Points per 60 (with a min. 30 GP filter that I arbitrarily selected) is 39th in NHL.

The skepticism should come more from the fact that he has never played at anything remotely close to this level previously and could come crash down to earth.

If the Oilers aren’t able to land a sure fire top 6 RW or 2nd pair dman, I’d rather they just stand pat unless they are getting a huge bargain in a depth guy or two. Assuming Kane can come back healthy and ready to play, he’s you top 6 guy.

Kane-McDavid-Hyman
Arvidsson-Draisaitl-Perry
Skinner-Nuge-Podkolzin
Janmark-Henrique-Kapanen/Brown

I also would be OK with paying a decent price for another proven starting goalie… like a John Gibson.

I certainly don’t want to pay a steep price for a guy like Donato, who shouldn’t crack our top 6.

I totally get it. If Donato can only produce playing with Bedard, he could never produce at the same level playing with McDavid.

All kidding aside, his value isn't just in goals and assists. He hustles and gives it his all every shift and I think he'd be very valuable to a team making a run because he can play anywhere in the lineup and shows some grit. I'd like the Hawks to re-sign him but I'd also love Edmonton's 26 first if they're playing that game. We could even throw in a sweetener like Kaiser if that's what gets it done.

I just don’t see the point in moving him for a 2nd/3rd. (And that’s probably his value right now)

Hawks have plenty of those. I’d try to extend him.

Of course if he doesn’t want to stay I suppose you have to move him. He’s having a great year, that’s for sure.

Nope!

No need to overpay for a guy having career year

He will want too much $ + term
